Re: Reports saints will sign Jolly
Well I'll go against the grain here - I reckon it's a great move if true. Our rucks are incredibly young and green. An old hand who is past his best but can help out wherever he is needed is exactly what we need. Not sure why we think playing two youngsters for the sake of it is suddenly going to turn them into superstars. Whilst I applaud the club for being bold re the recruitment of Longer at the expense of McEvoy, we need to maintain some sort of stability. If Jolly can play a handful of games when one or the other of the rucks in injured - then why not?
As For Kruezer coming on quicly? I actually reckon it's the opposite. He's been a massive disappointment considering his early draft pick.

I'm warming to the idea to get Jolly. Don't want to see our young, physically immature rucks getting pummelled every week. And he might help us win a game or two.Scoop wrote:+ 1Moods wrote:Well I'll go against the grain here - I reckon it's a great move if true. Our rucks are incredibly young and green. The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Reports saints will sign Jolly
NO to Jolly.
By all reports Jolly is a prick of a bloke.
His comments in the media at the start of this season were very ill considered and drove a wedge between his teammates.
Don't want his type at StKilda thanks.
Better to develop Hickey and Longer.
Rhys can pinch hit if required.
Even Lewis Pearce would benefit from a few games.

Re: Reports saints will sign Jolly
Why would recruiting Jolly suddenly stop the development of Longer or Hickey? Apart from anything else, both players should be made to work for their position, not treat it as a given. They will both be our first option in the ruck I expect, but I also expect they will be treated like every other player on the list - and that is, if they are playing poorly they are accountable to the match committee. We need to be able to bring someone into the team that can hold down the position. I fully expect the saints to not be great next year, but I don't expect us to just give the year away before its even started. If we want to attract half decent players to the club, we have to show them that there's hope for them if they come. I also think that Roo, Lenny, and even Fisher (now that he's staying) deserve the respect of us at least trying to win games.Enrico_Misso wrote:NO to Jolly.

As for Rhys in the ruck - it's an option. But it's a long year - we need a few options.
As for Jolly being a prick of a bloke? Any other evidence other than an ill conceived article written in a newspaper? The pies and before that the Swans both lauded him as a solid citizen. I reckon that's a silly comment.

Re: Reports saints will sign Jolly
If he meets all the character criteria, I would have no problem having him at the club as a mature age rookie/ruck coach. From what I have read, his body wouldn't be up to a full pre-season/season !!

Re: Reports saints will sign Jolly
It will be a big decisions as the club will have to delist a young player to get him on the list.
We definitely need an improved ruck coach and if Jolly to can fill that void as well as fill in when required I have no problems with adding him to the list.
SAAD delist and re draft as rookie.

That doesnt get us Jolly though, it just gets us pick 19. 2 have to go to get jolly.

Re: Reports saints will sign Jolly
And, I think EVERY player on the list is contracted. That would make it highly unlikely that Jolly would get on the Primary List IMHO !!plugger66 wrote:WinnersOnly wrote:It will be a big decisions as the club will have to delist a young player to get him on the list.

Re: Reports saints will sign Jolly
no to jolly. would send absolutely rhe wrong message to longer hickey and pierce.
already, Pierce must be concernbed that 2 other young rucks are ahead of him. Hickey is wondering if they dont have faith in him. Longer is hoping to play more games. It will be a big blow to all 3 if we take jolly. if we want to delist another player, take a calculated risk on a young fringe type with potential.. should always be 1-2 short term postions for that type

Re: Reports saints will sign Jolly
I think Jolly still wants to play and mix it at AFL level, so I don't think we would be a good fit.
Would rather we employee an outstanding ruck coach.
Stanley; is what, 23? I reckon he has enough under his belt.
Longer; is a monster, 202cm and 100kg. I don't think he is going to be the tentative type.
Hickey; 23 in March next year, I reckon he has enough under his belt too.
Pierce; not in contention
Holmes; monster and not in contention
Don't need Jolly. Just a good ruck coach imo.

Read first, then argue. I thought that I wrote that I didn't think his body would cope with a full pre-season then a full season. That may not have shown up on your computer !!BigMart wrote:What if its on the main list?

Re: Reports saints will sign Jolly
He has passed a fitness/medical. That is known?!
What's the diff between being a Rookie or on the main list wrt his body being up to it?
Btw
Jolly will not come to a club and play second fiddle? He wasn't prepared to support Grundy... He has a huge Ego which is why he's walked on three clubs... And thinks he was an elite Ruckman.....

He WAS an elite ruckman. How do you know his reasons for the pies releasing him? All that was reported was that he had a meeting with the pies and they decided to part ways, and Jolly believed he had more footy left in him, the pies didn't see a future with him. How do you know he has a huge ego? He left Sydney because his wife was suffering with depression - what an egotist.
The club took a risk a few years ago on a ruckman with far far more issues than Jolly. A 27 yr old injury prone, trouble making, drug using bloke who turned out alright for us. Was useful for a few years there once he got his body right.

Yeah - apparently put people off side with his comments. But he is not a risk in terms of behaviour.resaintlee wrote:+1. I have heard similarEnrico_Misso wrote:NO to Jolly.

I'm sure this won't be a deciding factor in whether a club should or should not draft him... In fact prob won't come into consideration at all.
