Re: Official Trade Rumours thread (all in here please)
Swans I will grant you have a better record of turning around fringe players, but even then most of the guys they targeted and turned around had played half a season. They can't turn all water into wine - or Walsh into an Afl player as the case may be. As I said I'm not averse to bringing in a small number of fringe players as long as it not at the expense of trading away 2nd round picks or established players.

Re: Official Trade Rumours thread (all in here please)
You might be right, but regardless he wasn't a regular when he was signed, and he's improved a huge amount with the Hawks to end up not far from a Norm Smith.Zed wrote:Gunston was very highly regarded by the Crows and would have been a regular the following year had he not walked out on them.
He probably was regular in 04, but he'd definitely dropped out and become a fringe player in 05. Didn't play more than five games in a row despite our injuries that year, and though he played in the finals that was two games for a total of three possessions. Hard to avoid giving the Hawks credit for his massive improvement.Zed wrote:Guerra had attitude problems and pulled his finger out because he realised he was on his last chance, and arguably was a regular the year before.
Not really. But anyway, when you say "they target guys who are regular AFL players and not fringe or backup players", you really mean "they target some guys who are regulars and some who are fringe and backup players and some of the regulars stay good and some of the fringe players improve and some of the fringe players don't". Definitely not as pithy as your original claim.Zed wrote:Let's not forget Burgoyne, Lake, Gibson who were all regulars. The regulars they targeted are still regulars - the fringe players still fringe.
I don't disagree with you that we shouldn't pick up too many recycled players. But you can't pretend that there aren't gems to find if a club does it well. Delaney probably won't be one of those but who knows? Maybe he's the second coming of Ted Richards, who was himself the second coming of Craig Bolton - both fringe defenders who were behind a few at their club and turned into excellent players.

Finally some sense prevails.
Ether cough up something decent north...or PI$$ OFF
also we wont be trading pick 21 for bruce. Think its too much to pay for him.
Glad to hear the men that matter agree with me about getting norf to put up or shut up and have started the clock ticking.
Dal deserves to know sooner rather than later.
He genuinely seems to have the clubs interests on par with his own during this whole thing, a noble thing indeed.
My view is that if a hot headed, 27 year old half back in Heath Shaw is worth around pick 15.... Dal is worth around that too.
Sure he's 3 years older- but more than makes up the gap on Shaw in skill, leadership and playing position/impact.
Also given his remarkable durability I'd equate the age gap to be more like 1.5 years in real terms.
If North can't stump up something like 15 for him (ie a clear win for us), we sit on our hands.
In the same way we were happy to pay overs for Mitch Brown last year to fill an immediate need, so will North.
Don't underestimate how much they need him- their midfield hole is as big as our FB hole.
I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.
I know how Dal feels.

Re: Official Trade Rumours thread (all in here please)
Emma Quayle tonight reporting some (highly qualified) interest in Everitt (Andrejs, that is).
"Three clubs have inquired after out-of-contract Swan Andrejs Everitt, who is also likely to be forced out of the club after it finalised its mega-deal with Lance Franklin this week.
St Kilda is understood to have expressed some early interest in Everitt, with the Giants and Melbourne also interested. The brother of former Saint Peter, Everitt is a low priority for all three teams.
No ground was made on a deal that would send Nick Dal Santo to North Melbourne, with St Kilda keen on securing two draft picks for its star midfielder, who may yet stay a Saint."

looking for 2 picks is interesting.....
if true, looks like we are going to be paying contracted guy(s) to not play next year.
Not a terrible thing (given our cap room) and assuming it results in getting young talent in.

Re: Official Trade Rumours thread (all in here please)
Andrejs is very similar to Gilbo and Roberton in how he plays.
He can play for sure. But just wonder if we need another bloke playing the same position?
No idea what is going to happen with Gwilt Gilbo Dempster and Fisher as it is.
As far as I am concerned Roberton, Webster and Geary are the first 3 defenders picked nest year. We then need a gorilla which only leaves 2 spots for those 4 older blokes.

Re: Official Trade Rumours thread (all in here please)
Not a rumour, just a thought, but would it be a good deal if we got Norf to delist Delaney, so we pick him up for free as a delisted free agent, then we let Norf get Dal as a free agent - giving us either an end of first or pick after our second rounder. Pick 20 and Delaney for Dal in effect. If they paid him enough, he should be worth it. Then again, I'd love one of their young onballers they have about 5 or 6 I'd jump at (Cunnington, Harper, Atley, Mullett, Bastinac etc).
Also, as for McEvoy to Hawks for 17 and Savage, I think I'd do it. Then package 17, 21 & Gilbo to GC for pick 5. Bah, its too late to think up decent trades. Trade week is a fizzer! Pffft

What if we take Montagna (who will be a FA next year), package him with pick 3, and go after pick 1?
Is Boyd worth it?

No way. Mad idea. He would be close to a top ten pick on his own.

Agree. Have to work on the theory that any of the top 3 could be the best.st.byron wrote:noddy wrote:What if we take Montagna (who will be a FA next year), package him with pick 3, and go after pick 1?

1=2=3 really
So thats like giving GWS joey for free imho.
No guarantee Boyd will end up better than pick 3.

Re: Official Trade Rumours thread (all in here please)
I feel like Norf will continue to refuse to budge on Delaney or make idiotic trade requests until we come to an agreement on Dal Santo.
Scott seems like that kind of guy. I honestly hope they continue to be uncooperative. Dal stays a Saint and we don't pay overs for a fringe player.

Re: Official Trade Rumours thread (all in here please)
How about this. North take Dal in the FA but they give us a pick and Delaney in exchange. Netting us pick 22, a 3rd round pick and Delaney. North lose Delaney and 3rd round pick for dal
Just an idea...

FA doesn't work like that does it? Teams are only eligible for a compensation pick, in this case #22, if there is no trade done in exchange for the player. I believe we'd have to give North something else for a pick and Delaney to receive pick 22 for NDS.

They arent allowed to give us a pick for nothing.

Agree, all deals need to be signed off individually and considered fairplugger66 wrote:MC Gusto wrote:How about this. North take Dal in the FA but they give us a pick and Delaney in exchange. Netting us pick 22, a 3rd round pick and Delaney. North lose Delaney and 3rd round pick for dal

Would the Saints consider trading a couple of players to Melbourne for pick 2? The Demons have made it clear they're willing to trade.

For McEvoy! Wow, just handed them a back to back IMO
unless we give Dal Santo to Norf...wow we're just the finishing touch for so many other teams in their race for a flag!
