Re: The Clarko Game Plan Wins Grand Finals
A pretty simple argument would be that the team with the best list won yesterday.Cairnsman wrote:No argument...best coach in the league.
Hawthorn nearly beaten by a far inferior team of talent.
If you'd swapped coaches yesterday, freo wouldn't have got anywhere near Hawthorn.

Didnt last year. Being at the game it didnt seem to me that the game plans won or lost the game. hawks kicked much better at goal and probably have a better team. freo travelled 3 out of 4 weeks and didnt seem as up as the previous game but still could have put huge pressure on the Hawks had they kicked straight especially in the first quarter.

Funny When Lyon wins he is the genius best coach ever
but when he loses it is because the players let him down or opposition had a better list

Re: The Clarko Game Plan Wins Grand Finals
Having guys that kick crunch goals when it's needed helps.
Previously, the Cats had Johnson, Chapman, Ablett, Bartell that didn't miss when it counted.
Yesterday the Hawks had Gunston, and the week before Burgoyne.

I gather you are writing to me. You wouldnt have known i was at the game? What does that mean? How could i tell you I was at the game? Run on the ground. Try to make some sense. Its to early for riddles.

Re: The Clarko Game Plan Wins Grand Finals
Lyon stuffed up when he made a comment about straight kicking in his presser on Friday after the GF parade.
Fyfe's first, second and third (every) shot for goal would have buried straight into the head of every Freo player with laser precision and planted a seed that will grow into the biggest bean stalk for the rest of the clubs life...bigger than a toe poke and erratic bounce of a ball.
It wasn't his only stuff up but IMO it was his first...good coach but arguably doesn't have what it takes to get through the last week in September.

Just want to repeat my question from last week:
How many failed GF ATTEMPTS before it can be said that Lyon is not the genius some on here consider him?

It was a throw away line. Seriously that is complete rubbish. Wouldnt have had even a slight impact on players. the problem was Fyffe having the shots at goal because he isnt a very good kick. matter of fact he is ordinary. Seriously if that is all you have then so far you have nothing.
The RL lovers cannot win the arguement today because Freo lost but that rubbish doesnt hurt the RL lovers cause.

Maybe if Harvey holds up a cup this time next year...I like Lyon, he's a good coach but I think his era might be at an end...one trick pony that some of the better coaches have worked out.whiskers3614 wrote:Just want to repeat my question from last week:

Re: The Clarko Game Plan Wins Grand Finals
Clarko is a great coach.
1. The Hawks had C grade players like Puopolo, Bailey, Simpkin in their line-up.
2. Gunston was an inspired pickup, as was Burgoyne, Guerra (who has become an integral part of the Hawks) , Lake (who was written off a couple of years ago)etc..
3. The Hawk's star midfielder, Mitchell, was kept very quiet while the Freo star midfielders and ruck were dominating, but the Hawks still prevailed.

Who are the coaches who worked it out. The way i see it it could only be one and that was Clarkson. I still need to know why Clarksons game plan didnt win the GF last year and also how the game plan beat freo yesterday. Can you explain what they did during the game to make the way freo played looked like a one trick pony? hould be easy if it was that obvious.

Apparently before his first two shots at goal that went out on the full his stats for set shots was 12.1...you could be right that it is complete rubbish. You were at the game...I just watched it on TV.

Re: The Clarko Game Plan Wins Grand Finals
I will go as far as to say ultra defensive strategy has won one premiership by a single point under Roos. Leo barry lets the ball go through his hands and it would be zero.
Lyon started a lot more attacking at Freo but seems to have gone back to a heavy lock down when the finals come around. I think he needs to get some tweaking happening or his game plan won't hold up in an era when teams like the Roos, Bombers and Tigers are coming through with very attacking styles and many with basketball style fast breaks to counteract the press.
Still a good coach but the style is a little flawed as it's surprise element is long gone. I think that's why we lost it toward the end. Everyone knew we were coming.

Well there you go. I didnt know that but I have seen him kick before and he isnt great. The comment certainly had nothing to do with his poor kicking though. Even your dog would know that but in your eyes it may have. Obviously Fyffe would laugh in your face if you said that to him though. if that is best you have to say how RL stuffed up and why Clarkson is better then I can only laugh which is apparently good for your health.

I wasn't at the game but from watching it on TV it looked like Hawthorn had the best balance between defence and offence.plugger66 wrote:Cairnsman wrote:Maybe if Harvey holds up a cup this time next year...I like Lyon, he's a good coach but I think his era might be at an end...one trick pony that some of the better coaches have worked out.whiskers3614 wrote:Just want to repeat my question from last week:

Someone mentioned Ro$$y's last 4 GF scores- 62, 68, 52, 62.
You need to kick more than the opposition, that stingy scoring is rubbish.
Better hand & foot skills can beat the press. Pinpoint passes to a leading forward = goals.

Re: The Clarko Game Plan Wins Grand Finals
The Hawks had 3 or 4 players in the GF who would be fringe players at St Kilda.
If Carko was coaching Freo he'd have a tailor made plan that works to the strengths of the team - not some prescribed plan.
With their dominant midfield and ruck they should have blown the Hawks out of the water.

Re: The Clarko Game Plan Wins Grand Finals
I actually like Lyon, I think he is a great man manager and he has left an indelible mark on the games history I wonder if he would be better suited to an assistant role as a defensive specialist or something like that...maybe if it all turns pear shape at Freo he could come back to our club in that type of role...gringo wrote:I will go as far as to say ultra defensive strategy has won one premiership by a single point under Roos. And how are the names Neale, Suttcliffe, Spurr Deboar go. Its rubbish. Both sides have fringe players. The hawks had the better list unless 90% of the media are wrong and you are right. And I thought the likes of Crowley and Pearce were said to have improved under RL game plan. Again as I have said the RL hates cant lose today because Hawthorn won.

Yep top 3 coach in the AFL suited to an assistant role but SW is a very good coach already. You really come up with some good stuff. The funny thing is on here the RL hates may actually think you are right. It just proves they watch games with one or maybe both eyes closed.

Re: The Clarko Game Plan Wins Grand Finals
I am having visions of Tommy Hafey or Malcolm Blight hiring Lyon as a defensive coach, can't stop laughing.
