Saints rule out Martin
http://www.saints.com.au/news/2013-09-2 ... out-martin
ST KILDA has ruled itself out of the market for talented Richmond midfielder, Dustin Martin.
Much speculation has surrounded Martin’s future after the Tigers released a statement on Monday announcing that he would pursue offers from other clubs.
The Saints have been one club linked to Martin in various reports surrounding the 22-year-old’s future but St Kilda Head of Football, Chris Pelchen has ruled out bringing him to Seaford.
“We are approaching the upcoming trade and draft period with a view to strategically building several aspects of our list but Dustin is not a part of any plans we have in place,” Pelchen told saints.com.au.
The bullocking Richmond midfielder has played 86 games in four years since he was drafted with pick three at the 2009 NAB AFL Draft and finished third in the Tigers’ best and fairest in 2011.

So its true - SACK WATTERS
Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

I would have taken the punt but really it doesnt matter. Martin is going to go back to the Tigers with even less money than this year the way it is going.

Re: Saints rule out Martin
Not surprised at all.
We need team players with talented skillsets but also the mental wherewithall to focus very clearly on permenant improvement as a strategy. No offence to the Dustman but hre seems to be the opposite to the likes of Harvey, ; Hayes ; Burke and indeed Dal Santo. Don't mind the club talking with him it hopefully builds the recruiters sense of who they should aim to target.
We have a few very promising young mids in the system already if we can add number to that group in a consistent way annually from here on in the turn around will get a lot closer, sooner. Don't like the idea of letting Montagna go as with hayes i think the young guys can learn a lot of him. We still have a few significant solid citizens at St. Kilda to help the younguns acclimatize.
We don't need players that could upset the applecart. - i know we need a good number of damn good apples to add to that cart.
It can be done.

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

I certainly hope we go after someone with more than a little promise especially as we'll probably have in room in the cap this year more than next
Re: Saints rule out Martin
there is a story going around...highlighted in this week's inside football in crackers keenan's weekly column under the heading "star flushed out of toilet"
'....about a player being ordered out of an inner city hotel after he was found using illegal substances in their toilet......crackers goes on to say that another player from a different club has been specifically ordered not to hang around with this guy over the break....
....i will let you guess which one was martin .........

Didn't we hear similar things about Gardiner? Sometimes a change of club....
Anyway it doesn't matter now either way.

Re: Saints rule out Martin
with Gardi i think he had hit rock bottom and at the time when we got him it was basically change or become that guy who was once a pretty good footy player... with Martin i think he still thinks he is all that and a bit more i dont think hes been thrown to the scrap heap and had to look at what his lifestyle is doing to his carreer .. the impression i get of Martin is the bloke who thinks he can do what he wants when he wants and his footy ability is enough to forgive all sins ...

Well the Swans under Roos was supposed to be the best at curbing bad behavior yet they couldn't tame Barry Hall, even so they may not of won a flag without him. Then lets not forget Fev waste of talent, which if what you are saying her has the Fev attitude.
I thinks its come down to he's not worth the risk due to our recent culture and not needing any more possible bad media reports with sponsors and membership to consider. Who knows maybe he's on a first or second strike.
I guess you guys are right but had out last few seasons of of-field misdemeanors not been there would we of taken the risk? Have to throw these thoughts into the arena

Re: Saints rule out Martin
People can throw up all sorts of examples of "bad boys" playing as part of successful teams.
The problem with Martin is that there are a lot of rumours about him, with the worst of those rumours putting him far beyond the level of badness of most, if not all, of the examples being given.
Are the stories true? Wouldn't have a clue.
But just the possibility they may be is enough to scare the bejeezus out of many Saints supporters, including me.
And as such, I'll sleep much more peacefully knowing he's not heading our way.
