Gilbert
What's going on there...
He was a bloke looking for a position after Roberton took his defensive flank.... He was devoid of confidence, couldn't hit a barn, looked scared to stuff up with the footy?? And his experiment on Gazza was embarrassing...
Injured.... 12 weeks
Comes back, looks a lot bigger and stronger, is playing CHB and beating KPPs looks composed with the ball and using it well..... Playing like Harry Taylor ATM
Did he just hit the gym for 3 months?

Re: Gilbert
Much maligned, so idea why.
Traded? Pfft
No fluke our defence has improved in recent weeks

Re: Gilbert
I think he spent the whole time learning how to kick, and he's pretty much nailed it.

Re: Gilbert
I'd agree with this thread if I could ignore the fact he has no right side and that some of his left foot disposals still go where they weren't meant to...
Apart from that I do like him in the side.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Gilbert
Was in Wellington Anzac Day and watched him nail Sam Reid to the wall. plays really tall when needed. While he can't take the likes of Cloke can be our second tall defender. Congrats to him as he appears to have really worked on his disposal while injured.

Re: Gilbert
It does not surprise me as after a knee injury you can really develop strength and balance that was never previously worked on. My son was the most clumsiest of people until a full ACL put him out for the year and through all the physio and rehab exercise he has more balance and become stronger through the core. Obviously Sam has followed the
physios plan and this has probably made him better.

Re: Gilbert
His entire season has been fantastic when he has played. He has really suprised me this year as this preseason I had all but written him off!

Re: Gilbert
Injuries have been a blessing for some of our guys.
I said at the start of they year we looked to skinny ( I was roundly ridiculed).
Both Gilbert and Lee couldn't run (knee and achilles) and so were forced to hit the gym/weights and came back bigger and better.
My point is you cant train everyone the same - every player is different and some guys need more weight work and need to sacrifice some endurance.
I dont think our training regime has helped a guy like Dunell for instance - there is a guy who would be better off sacrificing some endurance and putting on some strength. Same for Saad.
I hope our fitness staff learn from this next year - I think they f*cked up this year and didnt get it right. Finishing 3rd last provides some evidence for this.

Or maybe there's a long-term plan which will take more than a year to come to fruition. Not sure how much bigger Lee could have got by the start of the year, for instance.Con Gorozidis wrote:I hope our fitness staff learn from this next year - I think they f*cked up this year and didnt get it right. Re: Gilbert
I can't recall him playing a good game as a CHB. Every time we have played him there or at FB he has been soundly beaten. His best footy by far has been as a HBF.
Today however He was outstanding. Now we have to wait 6 months to see if it was a fluke or a sign of things to come!

He made the best players, so that helps your point..Zed wrote:I can't recall him playing a good game as a CHB. Every time we have played him there or at FB he has been soundly beaten. His best footy by far has been as a HBF.

Re: Gilbert
i thought he had that confidence back this year. was lost last year but seemed to have re-found it from round 1 on wards. resumed where he left off IMOBigMart wrote:What's going on there...

Re: Gilbert
With Gilbert back in the defence it is no suprise we have looked better down back (coupled with the fact our mids dominated both the Suns and Freo games).
With Fisher back, and a genuine fullback our backline will be a far better outfit next season.

Lance or James??
