Why is Dal the trade focus and not Joey?
I find it a little strange that Dal has been at the centre of trade discussion but Joey virtually hasn't.
If you were a finals aspirant and needed one more quality mid, which would you choose?
I actually think Joey might be a better fit right now, although I do think Dal has had a better career.
Funny. I don't want Joey to go though.
Thoughts?

Re: Why is Dal the trade focus and not Joey?
I think it is ridiculous to trade either of these players. Dal is playing very well and from half-back can set up play with his disposal and Joey is in career best form. We have a lot of kids coming through and hopefully 2 or 3 more with the draft - surely some experience is needed to help them develop.

Re: Why is Dal the trade focus and not Joey?
My opinion is that Dal at half back is easily taken out of the game if his opponent drags him to a deep pocket like they do to Heath Shaw now. Hopefully Steven and Armitage and other midfielders start demanding a tag and we can free up Dal I. The midfield - if not ... ???
AwayInUSA no longer ... have based myself back in Melbourne for a decade of Saintsational Success (with regular trips back to the USA)

Advertising.
Ever since Dal Santo was drafted ( early pick ) we've been hearing how good he is.
Footy Show appearances , he's always been a big name and that's why the media is focussed on him as a trade target.
Joey snuck in the back way. ( but is a better player IMO ).
There would simply be better offers going to Nick.
I think Joey in particular could extend his career to his mid 30's by playing forward pocket.

Re: Why is Dal the trade focus and not Joey?
I guess as Joey was a free agent last year, but chose to stay with us for less coin it would be pretty rude to trade him...
Dal is out of contract and not playing his best footy so people imagine that he might improve with a change of scenery
Also, Joey has been very close to our best player this year, Dal maybe 5-6th, but they would probably get a similar return if traded...

Based on his game this week I'd move heaven and earth to get Joey to stay at the club! Joe was magnificent!
St Kilda forever ( God help me)

Re: Why is Dal the trade focus and not Joey?
The reason Dal is being talked up more is because the sides who would be looking at trading for these sorts of players are looking for that little bit of class to round out their midfields and not a work horse key midfielder.
Dal's disposal is elite that is what sides look at.
If you are a side challenging for the flag you already have a pretty strong midfield and particularly will have a number of strong running midfield all-rounders.
What you may find improves you is adding an elite kick into your midfield rotation that is why sides challenging would be more likely to target Dal than Joey.

Also because Dal looks disinterested at times whereas Joey is pretty rock solid as a saints man.
Re: Why is Dal the trade focus and not Joey?
Dal would get us more than Joey. i think its that simple. yes joey has been better for at least 2 years now but Dal in a good side could use his sublime skills and help win games. i dont care what joey kicking percentage is but he can butcher the ball in occassions. Both just about greats of the club and hope both stay if they want to. if either wants to go then let them as we should with any of our older players that will get us a reasonable pick.

Agreed, makes total sense not to trade either player based on their future to help our younger brigadelongtimesaint wrote:I think it is ridiculous to trade either of these players. Over the next few years.
Couldn't stand seeing them in other team colors...
