With a Fully Fit Squad ?
Purely guess work but how many more games would we have won with our list fit from Round 1? Fisher, Dempster and Gwilt all came into the season underdone which is the worst thing that we could have hoped for. Injuries obviously effect all clubs but this is a question as to our list. Another thing to take into account is blokes like Blake being left out as we try and develop younger players.
Thoughts on how many we could have won?

Re: With a Fully Fit Squad ?
I guessed 6 wins before the season started… reckon that would be about right with no injuries.
We had a very soft draw this year, the injuries have made things difficult, but 3 wins says we are a very ordinary side at the moment.
Lot's of good effort shown, but our skills and experience mean we are miles away from the top 8.

Re: With a Fully Fit Squad ?
A fully fit team picked to win the most games this year would be something like this
B: Gwilt, Blake, Geary
HB: Dempster, Fisher, Roberton
C: Montagna, Hayes, Dal Santo
HF: Schneider, Riewoldt, Saad
F: Milne, Lee, Stanley
Foll: McEvoy, Steven, Armitage
Int: Ray, Jones, Gilbert
Sub: Dunell
I'd say that team would finish about 12th-15th. It still has the issues of poor footskills, lack of midfield pace/depth, lack of quality key defenders and too many small forwards. Not to mention a disfunctional game plan.

Yes… a few more wins and no experience into Murdoch, Newnes, Webster, Wright, Hickey, Curren, Ross, Siposs, Simpkin, Milera, Saunders… Ledger (get it )mad saint guy wrote: B: Gwilt, Blake, Geary

Maybe the injuries have been a small blessing… the small forward obsession has been a worry though and sucked games away from a few above.

You seriously dont think we wouldnt have got over the line against WC or Port and a couple of others with a fit Fisher and co? Odd call very odd in fact.

Re: With a Fully Fit Squad ?
Our problem is not fitness , its disposal !
How many times yesterday when going forward did we kick the ball straight to the oppostion ?

In the first half of the season we may have some additional games, but not the last half.
But then again??

Re: With a Fully Fit Squad ?
One or two more wins but every side has injuries. I dont think ours have been much worse than most sides.

Re: With a Fully Fit Squad ?
We had a compounded problem in the fact we got rid of Zac, Gram, Goddard and Raph who were a large part of our best back line. Then as you said we had injuries to Fisher, Gwilt, Dempster, Newnes, Wright etc.
The positive is we have now developed Roberton and Geary as very solid players and it has meant we have got games into kids like Newnes and Wright quicker than we may have otherwise.
The negative is we may have destroyed the confidence of Rhys Stanley.
Over all we just copped too many in one area which probably cost us a few games. Momentum is an amazing thing in sport- win a few and confidence grows, could have been a completely different year but at least we have fast tracked the kids.

WCE had a similar issue with injuries to key seniors after a clean out and it turn up plenty of depth for them and forced a fast tracking of youth same with Hawks a few years ago and Freo under Mark Harvey- it is a good way to get a squad that runs deep rather than how we were with guys like Steven Armo, Geary and Eddie all just outside the 22 but with very little game experience.

Re: With a Fully Fit Squad ?
If Curren can maintain his form ( the big question ) I'd have him in ahead of Saad, ( don't like the 3 smalls and don't agree it would win the most games ). Not sure I'd have Dunnel ahead of Newnes or Ross either.mad saint guy wrote:A fully fit team picked to win the most games this year would be something like this

Not sure if I'd have Blake at full back and Gilbert on the bench either. I'd go Fisher FB , Blake out, and Newnes in.
