It's believed Melbourne is keen on the no.1 pick in 2010 draft and I believe we should swoop in and get him. Would 100% trade pick 3 and a Gilbert for him

On contract with Suns till season end 2014, may be difficult.

Being contracted just means that the player's club needs to be OK with the trade.
Sometimes clubs go along with it sometimes they don't.
Though with Gold Coast , i'm not sure they'd want to give up a number one pick with three years experience for another untried young kid that will take a couple of years to get there. So not sure if Gilbert would be enough to sweeten it.

Is Swallow any good?

Number one draft pick with 50 games under his belt sounds solid. But averaging only 20 touches, 3 tackles, has only kicked a couple of goals for the year. Not exactly blockbuster numbers. He'll be 21 next year, that's a good age.

I don't remember ever seeing him on the park. Anyone have an opinion?

Very good player and hard at it as well, Swallow IMO - would have him at the Saints in a heartbeat.

So comparable disposals ( slightly better than ) to Nick Dal Santo as a 3rd year.
Or Jack Steven 2012

Doesn't seem to bad, but youd have to hope he'd keep improving.

Swallow is blue chip and would be a great get because you should get a guy ready to roll and still with 10 good years ahead of him. Sloane is a gun too. I would do either one of those trades in a heart beat but not concerned if we try our luck in the draft either.

Having seen all of the Suns games on TV this year, I have a high regard for Swallow. He's playing a different role this year, as an attacking defender, though I think he does some bits in the midfield.

Doesn't get the high numbers but is a valuable player. I met him at a family day in 2011 and he's a nice bloke too.

you are so outraged by a whole 2 draft positions?
not much diff between 3 and 5.

i agree it is a long shot but they are banned from the draft remember and 2 sth aussies in aish and scharenberg up for grabs.
so id reckon theyd do it for pick 3 if they could guarantee one of those 2 local lads.

Sorry I thought you said between 5 and 10. I didnt realise you only meant pick 5. I still dont see why they would get rid of Sloane unless he wanted to go to get an untried player. Sloane may have 8 or so years of footy left.

Intrigued by everyone on here saying give up draft picks, when provided with the best opportunity to develop their own list with 1st umcomprised draft in years.

Hence why have an academy? I know everyone has to the right to suggest it but why would you do it.

These guys are all going to be very very good players- Boyd Aish Scharenburg Sheed Dumont Dunstan Kelly Freeman Bontempelli Lennon Billings Kolodjasnij Battersby
Rodda Gartlett Salem Kennedy - Harris Hourigan Gardiner Taylor Hartung Tsitas Marsh Crouch McCarthy.

Statistics from previous drafts suggest some wont be, but the closer you get to pick one the better the odds.

You can guarantee that a lot won't be.
Tambling, Fiora, Cook, Muston… etc etc

Every year half of the first round picks don't become 'very good' players

No chance of getting him unfortunately.

My mate Harrison reckons he’ll end up at the Western Oval where he will become a starr under McCartney. 8-)
