Sad for Saad
Is it just me or does anybody else see that the potential banning of Ahmed Saad from the game for possibly 2 years as really bizarre and a gross travesty of justice if the Essendon players are allowed to walk away from this drugs scandal scot free.
Let's put it into perspective...Ahmed dared to enjoy a Red Bull or V or some sort of energy drink before a game whilst these guys have been systemically injecting all sorts of chemicals into their bodies over an extended period of time in order to gain an advantage over everybody else.
I love the game and will always love the Saints but I would be really disgusted if this is what was to eventuate and I'd be so tempted to give it all away and follow the VFL or something else

Dear oh dear. Have you been watching channel 7?
The report is interim. Wait until it is final and watch the girls at Windy Hill go down

Re: Sad for Saad
That is immediatly what I thought. Saad gets 2 years for an energy drink and Watson gets to keep his Brownlow and walk away. I don't get the benefit of channel 7 or the Herald Sun and I doubt The Oregonian will be reporting on it so I will have to reserve my outrage until its all said and done.

Re: Sad for Saad
Have I got this right? The Bombers Four are charged with bringing the game into disrepute for the non-drugs they gave their players, as after all there is apparently a lack of proof that any drugs not fit for human consumption were used anywhere on or near Windy Hill?
But Ahmed Saad has been named and shamed and will face a two year ban by comparison.
No moral or legal compass here.

One tested positive to a banned drug. The other hasnt tested positive and they are waiting for the final report. We have been told by the other thommo that WADA dont make deals and Essendon players will get a penalty if it can be proved they used a banned drug. the only problem is WADA do make deals so if for some reason they arent charged it will because of WADA and not the AFL. If the penalty doesnt fit the crime then WADA will appeal.

Who and when have WADA done a deal with in the past?plugger66 wrote:ozrulestrace wrote:Have I got this right? Handing out a reduced penalty based on circumstances is not necessarily "making a deal"

Re: Sad for Saad
Lets be clear - as P66 said, one tested positive for a banned drug. The others have not been found innocent. The investigation has a long way to go - "it is very far from over" according to Richard Inges. I think there will be lots more to come. I feel for Saad but it is a stupid mistake. I hope he doesn't get 2 years but if he does well so be it. Essendon saga for players is far from done. This interim step is purely to help the AFL deal with the club before the finals. There is a lot more to come and the players are far from being in the clear.

This is it, no more to be said.
Two cases are totally different. Really cant be compared.
Lance or James??

Re: Sad for Saad
Essendon have claimed that they won't get any notices and that is the rumour now floating around. Saad getting done when they can play is an embarrassment and will damage the AFLs reputation beyond repair. This is the AFLs finding and once again they have just done a little song and dance to look like they give a s***.
Rumour is that the club will receive similar penalties to Adelaide Hird 6 months starting from the end of this season and the others more nominal ones. All to be served outside competiytion times so Hird can come back in time for the 2014 season.

Re: Sad for Saad
If the Viking protein powder is responsible for Saad's positive test how the hell did no one from St Kilda pick up that he was sponsored by them and check it out?? You could find it out with a google of Saad's name. Its poor governance really and shows how poorly resourced the club is. There should be people constantly doing searches and interviewing players to keep abreast of all they are up to off the field. I just get the feeling we don't have the money for that.

Re: Sad for Saad
All this its not over its just interim stuff.....yeah that's true, but they still will get f*** all and saad will cop his two years.
I mean 6 month wrist slap in off sesaon...what a joke.
I don't fare what's interim and what's not finalalized or not finished.....the bombers WILL come out of it with f*** all damage.
Saad...two years.

Re: Sad for Saad
Exactly.
Find it difficult to believe he did not speak to anyone at the club about the supplement for starters.
Surely he would've been told.
And crikey why even take that stuff????. Its no good in reg season so why bother?????
Get on the musashi ffs.

Re: Sad for Saad
Yeah, would be staggered if Saad wasn't made aware of the dangers by the club, especially given the sponsorship deal.matrix wrote:Exactly.

But just like with alcohol, drugs, women etc, the club has no real control over the individual once they drive out of Belvedere Park

Re: Sad for Saad
still a joke if Saad is suspended and Bummers players get off.
P66, testing positive to a banned substance is simply not the end of story in these cases. Lance Armstrong never tested positive to anything.
This is exactly why the investigations go beyond testing, because systematic programs beat the system.
Bummers players signed up to have regular intravenous injections of substances they hoped would improve their performance.

Re: Sad for Saad
Is it true that the supplement Saad took is only illegal on match day,
but OK on all non match days?
And it is available in supermarkets?
And for that he might get 2 years?
Whilst Jobe admits to taking a shady drug administered in secret by injection, not commercially available,
and he is free to play on and keep his Brownlow?
What have I missed?

Sudafed is available over the counter from your chemist, but a professional athlete wouldn't want to get caught taking it. This is no different.Enrico_Misso wrote:Is it true that the supplement Saad took is only illegal on match day,

Re: Sad for Saad
Still suspect a relative white-wash to occur here.
Bombers losing their premiership points this year is nothing compared to half their team being suspended for 2 years.
We're hearing the media outlet commentators saying what a huge penalty losing premiership points as if its the big nasty penalty - but they'll be free to reload and go next year....whereas Saad is gone for 2 years for an energy drink...come off it!
