That makes no sense. How do you expect us to do better next year than this? Our quality players will be one year older and our kids will still only have a few games under their belts. I wouldn't expect too much from 2014 if I was you.
tell you why... guys out injured should come back stronger with a good preseason inc young boys. Watters has an idea of who plays where. If we get a KB in trade / draft that will give some support to our decimated back line. ad in Chips Gwilt gilbert healthy gives it structure and direction.
We are seeing great signs from Curren Saunders Jack newnes Bull Ross ledge maybe still have... Dal Joey lenny armo jones schnids playing. Stanley forward with Lee and Roo Saad? Terry M Minch and Hickley/stanley Big boy in ruck. so I personally think the gel is being set and now we need to work on making a clicking team with a game plan and structure based on what we have, its ok. I want to us to hold 16th if not better it 15/14th if we finish the year under 16th with no major injury issues like we have had this year I will be dissapointed. think about it Melb and GWS if GWS start flying i can handle that... But based on what I am seeing now with Melb I would be horrified if they finish over us next year. ( you never know they might pull it together)
this year have been the blooding/learning who's in and out.. I want to see some more positives out of next year in terms of team gelling and structure around the ground. Guys that know their role and play that role and know each other. So I am looking to see 16th or over. my opinion i might be terribly wrong.

We've recruited Shenton(at pick 30 in the rookie draft, who might still make it, who knows?) ahead of Marley Williams(a gift at pick 35 in the rookie draft, who was expected to go in the regular draft and who is getting regular games in a stronger team!!).
We also missed out on Seedsman at pick 76 in the 2010 draft.
Collingwood and Geelong remain successsful largely because their recruiters are on the ball.
West Coast Freo and Swans didn't do too badly either from 2010 draft - Luke Parker or Jack Darling or Michael Barlow or maybe 2 out of 3 of these blokes could have been at the Saints

Fair enough. Unfortunately for us to finish 16th there need to be two teams under us, and Melbourne's the only likely one at this spot. GWS are pretty likely to win 3 to 7 games next year which should bump them up a few spots. I can't see anyone else who'll be bad enough to win less than 5 games.
Same line he has been putting for the past 12-18 months.
We are bringing the young players up together as a group. Desperately need a fullback, looking for a quality mid in the 25 under age.
McEvoy is not going anywhere.
Nice on Curran. Put him on Mitchell for a quarter and a half and said he wanted to know what he learned. Walking down the race Curran said to Watters "he is hard and tough at the ball but i feel i can play against him".
Sounds like Watters knows exactly what he wants from his kids and is encouraging it.
Watters is under no illusions. As he would have not been when he was appointed.
Looking 5 years ahead.
Gen Y enjoy having input on how they can get better.
Gen Y also like the ability to back themselves.
If Watters is a good at talent identification, one would expect that they will be given the ability to succeed.
At this stage I have no idea if Watters is a good coach.
That being stated, we have had a block of kids progress this year with +10 games and managed well. Nobody looks tired which is fantastic.
I think Watters has what it takes, providing we hold our nerve through this steep learning curve!
He's learning has he goes just like the young players, we need to be a bit patient.
Though I am not a great fan of Dermott as a person (after he king hit Frawley when he was towling up Dunstall)
Dermott falsley claimed that Frawley hit him first to mitigate the dog act. I remember Danny being extremely, extremely, upset at the time.
Dermott does know a lot about football and would certainly be a great get as specialist forward coach.
And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"
And our former president said " Football is like golf"
I hate to admit this, but one thing Brereton does understand is footy. A lot of us were dubious about Lyon and before that Thomas and we were wrong. And a lot of us here thought Blight was God and we were wrong about that too, eh?

I don't do the +1 thingy, but I couldn't have said it any better Stinger.
ST KILDA coach Scott Watters insists he isn't worrying about extending his contract beyond 2014 just yet.
The Saints' coach, who took over from Ross Lyon at the end of 2011, is out of contract at the end of next year.
He says while he wants to stay with his group beyond that term, joking he'd even like five more years, adding he isn't losing sleep over just when that will be confirmed.
"Whether that happens now or next year … the really pleasing thing at our footy club is our directors, our executive and our coaching group, we're all very much on the same page about what we need to do as a group," Watters said on Saturday on SEN.

"I guess every coach, yeah, the win-loss you see it, you know where it sits. But from the moment I took over this club, almost the most important thing was making sure that we were bringing on the next group of players. I don't want to shy away from us being a club that want to win and want to compete. We prepare every game, and even some of these kids in their first, second, eighth game - we have to prepare to the nth degree to get a result. That's what it's all about. But I don't walk away from a game like tonight deflated. I walk away and I picture Brodie Murdoch, Jimmy Webster etc, the names that I've mentioned.
"This club was in a decline for four years. You go halfway through 2010 and the KPIs were starting to taper. 2011 it then followed. My last year here, whilst we won the same amount of games as 2011, there'd been no development and really not a lot of fresh blood brought on to the list. So we notice the win-loss, no doubt, but we've got to make sure that we're playing the right players to move this club forward. And then recruit and add to it. That's where we're at."
Good answer. It's hard not to believe in him when you see him speak.

More and more people are saying he's the right man for the rebuild, and from pundits that know a hell of lot more about footy than most of us mug punters. It's also great now that he's got past any denial that was still left within and outside the club and is able to tell it like it is and sell his message on the rebuild. The club must now keep very strong, be confident that they have a good plan in place and don't waiver from it and keep looking for the right people to execute it and forget about the win/loss column for a few years.

His style and approach to how clubs should work crossed with his public profile would be a massive, massive boost to a list and club like ours. The young blokes respond really well to him from what I understand and having him spruke for us in the media would also be invaluable. I'm a fan.
Dermie did state on SEN a week ago, that he has promised SW if he does not "go on" with Giants in 2014 he WILL be doing something with the Saints that season

If he is the right man then it should be ok to wait until this time next season to sign him because he will obviously do the right thing for the club whether he has an extention or not.

While I see where Watters is coming from, I disagree. He says our KPI's were starting to tape, but he declines to acknowledge that we missed Roo for 16 matches and were still easily top four. Our gameplan was built around Roo and we came within a bounce of winning a GF.
Watters team was chock full of HgH and so it proved in the replay, and again been aired by the Robinson interview. Hopefully Watters wasn't involved in that "supplements" programme.
