Re: Give Jones another contract
No way are you kidding they need 12 midfielders currently have 4 and will probably lose one
You building a list going forward keep only a potential kid from the draft.
Q is jones going to get better ? No he ain't .

You can't fault the guy's effort one iota in any game. Unfortunately his skills just let him (and us) down time and again.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

2008 is calling when him and McQualter battled it out for the most handballs to other players in space despite being in space themselves.savatage wrote:His kicking was absolutely abysmal tonight.

Played well. Will always have bad disposal but his
pro's outweigh his cons by far! Next year when were getting thrashed by 100 points every few games the young kids need someone there to show them the way and someone that just goes out, gives his all and runs both ways.
Needed player IMO

Re: Give Jones another contract
I love the guy for his attitude and his application. If he had elite disposal skills he'd probably be AA and have a Brownlow to his name. Even good disposal skills would have probably earned him a B & F. Sadly he has inferior disposal skills. And therein lies the rub.
Do we continue down the CJ path in 2014? With the team in a rebuilding phase, does his experience and hardness at the ball outweigh his deficiencies?
It's a tricky one and one that I'm quite happy to leave to those at the club to decide.

Re: Give Jones another contract
Our kicking skills in general were deplorable. If poor disposal is a reason for dumping a player, most of tonight's side would be gone (led by the captain). The argument for keeping Ledger out of the side because of his poor kicking skills is just a crock. Attitude should be a determining factor. We're fast on the break, but tread water when defending, or chasing. Does Watters have the capacity to inject some tenacity into the players? His Subi boy (Lee) is a prime example...talented, but a lazy coaster.
Re: Give Jones another contract
With all the scheduled retirements at the end of the year I get the feeling they'll keep Jonesy on the list. At the very least he'll be good back up in the squad and a good role model for training. I want to see the young ones force him out of his place in the team though sometime next year.

Re: Give Jones another contract
He is needed for next year, at least until someone can step up. Good enough to play in two GFs not that easy to replace, despite what some think not our worst in terms of disposal.

Tough player needed in tough times. Those who have a set on him can only have issues with his kicking.
You don't get rid of good players on grounds of a few clangers. Clint's a keeper.

Re: Give Jones another contract
Not sure if he will survive a cut , but personally I think he is needed for his grunt work at the moment.
Pelch is a stickler for elite kicking skills so I don't think Clint has a very long future, unless he improves quite a lot next season.
Some of the young players miss targets under pressure but that's to be expected now and then until they get up completely to the pace of the game.
Dindnt get to the game as planned so I speak from Telly watching, but our skills did seem to deteriate once the young bodies tire

Raph Clarke, Dean Polo & Brett Peake would be in our best 20 players this year.
Trying hard isn't enough. The hard tags aren't working & in the end he is just a hard at it, average footballer with the worst kicking skills in the comp.
We will be belted next year regardless if jones plays on...

We kicked 2.5 in the first quarter - were they already tired?supersaints wrote:Dindnt get to the game as planned so I speak from Telly watching, but our skills did seem to deteriate once the young bodies tire

Re: Give Jones another contract
Doubt he will be there but we are all only guessing.
But you look at list and they will have next year Dempster Fisher Montagna Riewoldt Schneider Dal Santo Gilbert
Feel that Hayes not going on listening carefully to what he is saying.
They have resigned Milera Ray which means they If they keep Minchington & Curren & Ferguson they need to cut.
Afraid guys who are 30 plus are subjects being cut Blake Kosi Milne Jones & Ledger Tdl (Gwilt on soft ground too )

Re: Give Jones another contract
Yep, give Jones another contract as the stunt double for our mascot. Lack of a right side should not be an issue in that role.
Going forward is about discovering new talent & developing young players on the list. CJ is a gut runner but has not improved in any skill level. Will only slow another players development without improving our best 22.

Re: Give Jones another contract
No not the future , that long bomb into the forward line sums up what we get with him , great contest but bad skills & decision making . Bye Clint
Jack Newnes happy to be a Saint !!!! PS and to hit a target !!!
