We could come last next year
I know that sounds inspirational.....but,
If GWS improves, gets Buddy etc
If we can't attract a decent tall backman
Dal, Hayes and Roo another year older
I can't see a worse list than ours in the AFL....Doggies maybe, but take out Roo and what have we got?

the point is, my StKilda related depression doesn't look like lifting anytime soon - short of miraculous trading/ recruiting...over to you Pelchen...my mental health is in your hands.

I'm tipping Essendon for the wooden spoon this year and next year.

Re: We could come last next year
2015 could be worse again IMO
Roo, fisher, Lenny all very unlikely to be playing, Joey, dal, Dempster maybe?
It's not the end if the world, someone has to finish on the bottom, maybe we'll end up with the 2 best players of the next decade. It's actually a good time to bottom out, as there won't be much competition for bottom spot.
Hang in there everybody... we've had a good run, it's our turn for some pain.

Re: We could come last next year
"St Kilda related depression"? give me a break! Its a game of football for goodness sake. SO! we got flogged! Is it the first time? Do any other clubs get flogged? If one of my kids got sick, or one of my Grandkids was in an accident, or my wife became ill, or my cat died....then THAT would give me cause to feel depressed. It's FOOTBALL folks! a GAME! (Go Saints!)

I actually found it far more depressing losing those GF's. Right now it's all water off a duck's ass. The nothing to lose scenario doesn't really get me all that upset.

I hated losing the GF's too, (didn't we all?) but depressed? REALLY? Maybe I'm just getting too old to let a damned game of football get me "depressed" BUT I'll tell you for nowt what it HAS produced in me; DETERMINATION! I'm determined that I am going to stand with my club and it's players as we attempt to pick ourselves UP! No time for depression here folks! Far too much energy needed in barracking for my club!!!

Re: We could come last next year
Is say we are odds on for the spoon next year.
A huge shot at it.
The key is don't panic and make every decision and post from herein a winner.
We can't change the past but we can learn from it.
Rule 1 : Never and I mean never allow a coach to play a role in recruiting contracts or trades.

We're not talking about life here JUST football
117 years of competition
1 premiership by 1 point
26 wooden spoons
Winning % of just under 40%
And a shitload of work to do to even come close to contending again ...
What else can it be described as but depressing ?
What you do for others will define your life.

Re: We could come last next year
Problem is, the AFL is getting right behind Melbourne with a bailout package and its own choice of coach and possibly administration. So they are going the way of GWS and the Suns ... bound for successSainternist wrote:Ummm... you forgot Melbourne.fugazi wrote:I know that sounds inspirational.....but,

People need to get a life. Yes we are down the bottom, yes we just got smashed by the cats but at the end of the day its only a game. Its just footy afterall.

Last or second last is likely. But just relax and expect little. It's easier once you adjust.
Start going to see the Zebs a bit. The hotdogs are superb and only cost $4.

Finishing down in the bottom is engrained into any real supporters DNA. Losing grand finals brings in St Kilda related depression, but surely we are used to finishing down the bottomsouthernsaint wrote:People need to get a life. Re: We could come last next year
What about those Geelong supporters who work at Ford? Or have a family member who they rely on who does? Or have been working at Target? Those people have real problems. Good luck finding work in regional Victoria without transferrable skills and qualifications. They are the ones who are probably depressed. Funny thing is they were booing Milne the other night and then they probably go home themselves and kick the cat and yell at the kids. Yep, think a lot of Saints supporters are better placed than Cats. I am sad that we're not doing as well as I would like, but then again, perhaps this awful year will stop us wallowing for years in mediocrity like Richmond and Melbourne.
Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.

yeah, it's was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment, mate....wouldn't have thought that needed explaining.thejiggingsaint wrote:I hated losing the GF's too, (didn't we all?) but depressed? REALLY? Re: We could come last next year
You could also say we are 3rd on the ladder for the best draft picks. So next year we could be minor premier's in that league....all good for the future. Back the youth, hang on to our aging stars and trade the odd player of value that we have more than one of and hope our recruiters know something.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: We could come last next year
Yep, we'll finish bottom 3 again for the next two years at least. What we do within that period will determine where we stand in 6 years from now. At least we have two people in Watters and Pelchen who have started the ball rolling and are under no illusions about what we need to do.
