Re: Armo
Really sloppy kicking game from Armo , just slamming it on his boot.
Not sure he is captaincy material , just a good solid player in my opinion ...
I think the next captain may come from a Newnes type as Rooey will still be around a couple of more years ...

Jack Newnes happy to be a Saint !!!! PS and to hit a target !!!
Re: Armo
Last year Armo started off the season really well before slowing towards the end of the year. A month or so ago it was worrying as it was looking like much the same. To his credit his last few games have been really good. He isn't going to be a top A grade star, but is a player we need on our list.

Re: Armo
When he has time I think he's a beautiful kick. I must be missing something. All in and unders kicking % are low due to the fact they get many of their possesions under pressure and are often just throwing the ball on their foot. His biggest issue at the moment is his hair.

Midfielders with a defensive game.... Turn it up!
Except for CJ
After the ball leaves a stoppage, mids hardly go near their direct opponent, they just hunt the footy..... Lenny included
Least Armo applies pressure around the contest with 6 tackles a game on average.... Testimony to some defensive aspects during the game, Len the same

Hrumphh !!! What games are you watching ?plugger66 wrote:BigMart wrote:Gilbert, Ray, Steven for starters
Steven has been a better kick and decision maker this season than Armo and that is why he is now getting closer to being an A grade player.

Saints games.
Re: Armo
Steven's kicking has been fine this year and a vast improvement on last year, and in the past month he's been exceptional by foot... He is actually a very good kick, just taking time to find his balance and poise like some youngsters do...

Re: Armo
You're kidding me.. how many times did he go to ground and far too easily? Once you go to ground, you're out of the contest.gringo wrote:Really watch his replay it was a pretty Lenny like performance- head over the ball and great pressure and tackling. lots to like about his game.

David has been serviceable Liz but surely you aren't saying he has been better than J.Steven this season ?elizabethr wrote:Hrumphh !!! What games are you watching ?plugger66 wrote:BigMart wrote:Gilbert, Ray, Steven for starters

Re: Armo
Steven gets the ball more often (doesn't have a great deal of attention for a reason) but credit to him he's a ball hunter and carries the ball, breaks lines and wins contested footy and clearances.... Great attributes indeed.... Good player
His kicking and decision making is not good.... And really it's a combination of two technical flaws, and one behavioural.
For gods sake, he ran around in three circles the other day and spilled it over..... And he generally does when he nurses a short kick, cannot have a gentle touch at full clip, or make good decisions.
Armitage.... Not the breakaway pace, similar engine, better kick (that's not even debatable) stronger at the contest (just due to physique not effort)
Kicking argument laughable

Re: Armo
there is a place in the team for the supreme ball butcherers armo and steven
we need some classy midfielders to take their hard earned possesion and deliver it properly
or else those two, armo and steven, will continually butcher deliveries and shots on goal

Re: Armo
Steven
Needs to balance step if he is going to medium pass, should NEVER short pass on the run, and kick over the NEXT line when ever possible, making him a 80m player... He is a good long kick.
Decision making... It's alright to take the game on ...... WHEN YOU CAN, but if there's a first option, give it...
Armitage
Lack of pace.... Carries the ball for two steps too long on the run, allowing pressure on what should be an I opposed disposal.
Handball in congestion more, rather than slam on the boot.

Agreed. Steven is now a much better kick and decision maker.
