8 Ways (players) To Make Us Better
I'm trying to be optimistic ... hard to after today
Consider these facts ...
Missing: Hayes, Milne, Gilbert, Schneider, Maister, Fisher and of course no Goddard.
Out of form: Kosi, Saad, Siposs
Compare to this time last year Round 15 2012 - first week in July. Hard to believe this happened ... but note the players mentioned.
ST KILDA 4.3 9.5 15.6 21.7 (133) ESSENDON 3.5 5.6 7.8 8.14 (62)
GOALS St Kilda: Milne 5, Riewoldt 4, Saad 2, Schneider 2, Siposs 2, Wilkes 2, Koschitzke 2, Gram, Gilbert.
BEST St Kilda: Milne, Riewoldt, Hayes, Dal Santo, Armitage, Siposs.
There's no way known we can beat a Richmond with all these key players out. 15 of our 21 goals against Essendon were kicked by players who weren't running around today.
If Dwayne Russell would stop yabbing on about the Tiger Army and realise who is missing from our team - then the Tigers win would be put into perspective.
Yes we played crap and awful but we have 8 players who can make a difference (minus Kosi who just can't lift.)

A far better post than all those that are seeking to sack Watters.

I'm sorry but Hayes, Milne, Gilbert, Schneider, Maister, Fisher are not going to be our saviors. 4 are 'old' and on the way out and Gilbert and Maister would be lucky to get a game with any other club.Newman wrote:I'm trying to be optimistic ... hard to after today

Kosi probably playing his last year and Saad and Siposs not measuring up.
Goddard a huge, huge loss.

Agree that Hayes, Milne, Gilbert, Schneider, Maister, Fisher are not going to be our saviors. But even in 2013 they would have made a difference in our loss to Tigers. Maister having an ordinary game may have kicked 2 goals compared to Kosi's nil output. A fit Gilbert or Fisher would have prevented 1 or 2 and a Milne or Schneider would have popped one.

I agree with all of that but we can longer count on Hayes, Milne, Fisher, Schneids or Goddard. And Kosi isnt 'out of form' - hes done. We cant click our fingers and take them back to 2009 form.Newman wrote:I'm trying to be optimistic ... hard to after today

Any improvement from these players is purely fictional. It wont happen.
We need improvement from the 19-23 yo group.

Good post, we are in trouble wothout those players, most of whom will retire anyway but...
Also lost the forgotten man in Gram...who, though he had deficiencies, would get 20 touches and kick deep into fwd 50 or clear deep out of defensive 50

Re: 8 Ways (players) To Make Us Better
Hayes, Schneider and Fisher have 'old' bodies. It is not bad luck that they are not out there, their bodies are not up to the rigors of AFL football. More and more it is a young man's game. Milne is slower and Maister is not athletic at all which is going to be a problem and may have caused his injury.Newman wrote:Agree that Hayes, Milne, Gilbert, Schneider, Maister, Fisher are not going to be our saviors.
