Watching Port tonight, they have completely run the Pies ragged, and it's quite probably been the difference between winning and losing. There ability to run hard, have second and third efforts, hunt the pack in groups, get back to completely decimate Cloke, and have their tackles hurt and stick.
They somehow poached a fitness coach from Liverpool FC.
Collingwood are coming off the bye, but not even all their altitude training and a week off can let them keep up with Port.
Is this an area we need to improve on?

Re: Fitness
I'd say the huge amount of excellent draft picks coming Ports way in recent years has more to do with it...

Darren Burgess, the fitness guy, has returned to Port after a stint at Liverpool FC, he was at Port during some of Mark Williams time there .FQF wrote:Watching Port tonight, they have completely run the Pies ragged, and it's quite probably been the difference between winning and losing. Obviously better than who we have at the moment, however, Dave Misson went to Melbourne and has bombed there, they can't run out a quarter let alone a game.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Fitness
Our fitness may be a concern. We certainly haven't been able to run games out like we should be able to this season.
One reason may be, as others have noted in other threads, is that we continue to invest heavily in 2-4 small forwards who do not, or cannot, go into the midfield rotation. The fewer blokes who can go through the rotation, the less run we have.
That's one theory.
Another is that we are not fit enough. We are not training hard enough or we are training wrong.
Another is that not being able to run games out goes with the territory of blooding lots of kids.
Maybe it's a combination of all of the above, who knows.

With exception of Ollie Wines it's almost the same list as last year - and they lost Chaplin as well. Don't kid yoursel their new coach and fitness guy have made massive improvements with the existing cattle.SainterK wrote:I'd say the huge amount of excellent draft picks coming Ports way in recent years has more to do with it...

Exactly... Port have more young gun players than us...tony74 wrote:If we hit targets more often we would look a hell of a lot fitter.
Hartlett # 4
Boak # 5
Wingard # 6
Wines # 7
Butcher # 8
Moore # 9
All taken before the best pick we've had for a long time...
Fitness is important, having a list full of guns is even more important,

How do you think he is going at Melbourne...worst team since us in the 80's...AND, they ran out of legs at the end of the 3rd quarter against the Bulldogs..that's Misson's fault..Moorabbin Man wrote:DEFINITELY, get back Misson
His ideas on fitness have well and truly gone Misson
