A shocking look for sponsors .
I feel for Milney . This happened so long ago and it should have been dealt with them.
But he needs to step aside.
Anyone wonder we can't get any decent sponsors and we can only get blokes sponsors .
This is why.
Yep good points.

In this day and age and given his age also he prob just needs to retire.

The AFL haw hardly backed us re him being called a rapist in the past either.

That would be a good result for the club - but I don't reckon Milney will see it that way.

The problem with that is he never actually gets to clear his name. Whatever happens, many will still presume he is guilty.
If there is no new evidence then I don't think that they can stand him down (unless of course he volunteers to). He has the right to presumption of innocence (HAH!), so if he is mentally up to it then he plays.

To the OP his choice in the end. Have a feeling he may but will have to wait for the Presser tomorrow.

Yeh but the club has the final say on whether he plays or not and Milne has been around long enough to know the effect on the club if he sticks around

Personally I have had enough of it on our club.

I feel for Milne and you are retired a long time, but can we really afford to have someone charged with such a serious crime allowed to continue to play for the club?

I really hope that nothing comes of it, but the club will be dragged through the mud by the scum in the media and really cant afford the bad publicity.
:(

Sadly i think you are right.....

Not sure there is an inconsistency as the situations are not similar are they?

Lovett had a drunk and disorderly, then another time turned up to training in an unfit state, and then got involved in the last event that led to his sacking. He wasn't sacked for that particular event, but for his third indiscretion.

Likewise Gram fell foul of the law multiple times and ignored the clubs strict guidelines.

Not saying he won't be sacked just find this situation a little different to the above?
Consistent in the fact that all have been charged and then sacked. I realise there are inconsistencies regarding details such as severity of charges and number of charges and chances given. Milne may be (likely, given sexual assault success rates) found not guilty but his charges are at the severe end of the scale.

It's a real mess. Whether he's guilty or not, it'll be difficult for someone like this girl to stop his defensive legal team making her look like a complete stalking slag. After 9yrs you'd think it'd be something more solid than sour grapes after a drunken fling?

Is there a link to what the actual 4 charges that have been levelled at him are?

I just hope he, and his legal representative, resist the urge to utter the phrase, "we will vigorously defend the charges". Absolute conviction of guilt!

He is entitled to the presumption of innocence.
Therefore the club should support him.
Therefore he should play.

He seems to be getting victimised here - trumping up charges after 9 years is ridiculous.

the only thing i will say on this matter is that it would be a terrible shame for such a great career to end on a note like this ... the choice is between the club and Milne if they decide he should play on through it all then i support that .... i can only imagine the hell the entire Milne family would be going through with all of this stuff.. hopefull for all involved one way or another there is finally some closure on the matter...

Should stand himself down until the hearing (a committal hearing?) on July 5. Then make the next decision after that....

couldnt agree more. maybe not retire but definitely stand down pending resolution of case, which pretty much means retire. deserves a send off game though

The club should stand by him. His case has not been referred to trial yet let alone found guilty. Imagine what his family has gone through all these years and now this. This is very different to the Lovett case and the Gram case. We need to stand by him and his family.

So how does that work? If he stands down till the case finishes then he probably cant play until mid next year. The saints wont carry him until then so how can he play a send off game?

So how do we announce that? We say this is Milneys last game? If he plays this week he has to play out the whole year.

Cant believe anyone thinks he'll play or be allowed to play with this hanging over him.

It would be a horrendous look for him, the club, the game... imagine the howls when he went near the ball.

Will either step or be stepped aside, 'pending' 'to focus' 'be with family' 'we support him' etc... to avoid the equally bad look of him retiring immediately, then will likely retire at the end of the season.

Surely.

How can they? This occurred in 2004 and at the time the Club did not (rightfully) stand him down. They cannot change their mind 9 years after the fact and have two bites of the cherry. All that has changed, is that some paluka at Vic Pol has changed their mind. Nothing else has changed. So the Club should get some competent (not the idiot whom advised them in the GT annual leave matter) industrial legal advice re: standing Milne down. That advice should be that they can't and would face a law suit from Milne if they did.
