Not a chance. Unproven & knee problems on top of that.

Our first pick may be close to #1 as it is and it wouldn't necessarily have knee problems either.

I wasn't impressed with what I saw of Patton as it was, doesn't have the work ethic - sure it could come but it could also come to Spencer White.

Patton was rated the best KPP to be drafted (on talent) of the last 10 years. A few glimpses prior to his injury showed just why he was highly rated. His knee injury may turn a few away but I'd be happy to throw pick 3-5 to GWS in a heartbeat.

Yep & They're already saying that Boyd will be better so it really proves nothing. I'd rather take a fresh stab at something else. If GWS wants to package him up with someone else highly rated then let's talk.

Worth noting is that the 2013 draft is slightly compromised. Jack Martin and Jesse Hogan are rated top 5 in this years draft, even top 1-3. If we end up with pick 3 this year we'll be getting the 5th best junior based off talent.

A lot less compromised this year than the last few years.

They play slightly different games. Patton is an out and out power forward who was renowned for pack marks. Boyd is a lump of a lad but more your lead up forward and very athletic.

If we were assured of getting Boyd then I would be inclined to pick him over Patton because he has had the knee reco. It's looking more and more likely Boyd goes pick 1, possibly 2. With that in mind we'd need to compare Patton Vs pick 3-5 which would likely be a midfielder. As poor as our midfield is I'd take a highly rated and former pick 1 key forward over a highly rated midfielder any day of the week.

Yeah I wouldn't. I'd either go for the best from this year's draft (in Boyd) and failing that - get the gun midfielder.

Agree the first round isn't as compromised as recent drafts however the top 5 certainly is (Martin and Hogan). I think we have to put a line through Boyd, he is little chance of sliding to us. I understand GWS and Melb have plenty of key forwards (and GWS may get Buddy) but he's looking increasingly like the best in the draft by a fair way plus he's a key forward. If clubs are selecting best available then Boyd goes pick 1.

I'm good with that, then we get a gun mid in any case.

Can't help thinking who can we get across the line to replace Hayes and Harvey?
The above 2 are the A-Grade quality that have graced the Saints over the last decade+. We haven't replaced them yet but i think we need to get that quality midfielder asap

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

Too old??? He's 20, I wouldnt take him for our first round but thats because he's got suspect knees and for a big bloke that might be tough to overcome but to say he's too old is just ridiculous

yes, he is a beast, some of his goals and the way he dominates players who have been in the system with strength is scary... will be a freak

With all the key forwards on the list why would we trade our first pick away for a key forward. We have desperate needs to fill like gun midfielder and a monster back. Let's try and use the pick on one of those

Not our #3 pick, no.

But there is an opportunity here.

If GWS lure Buddy, they have Cameron Patton and Franklin.

They may see Patton as a risk due to the knee issue and may be prepared to trade him for say flippin hell I dont know??? Dal Santo, our second pick, and the soul of Scott Watters??????

We should keep our #3 for the best mid we can get from the draft

Lance or James??
