A Challenge to the Journos

Post: # 1344979Post Bowey Boy »

Why not set yourself apart - bag the umpires - tell it like is is - West Coast have two undeserved wins this year - make the umpires accountable - stop the rot !!!

Still, one last twist remained. Saint Ahmed Saad looked to have been taken high, but instead was penalised. St Kilda's sense of victimisation peaked.

Three of the Eagles' five last quarter goals came from free kicks. It is a moot point whether the Saints' fanatical disposition on the night led it into costly mistakes as they tired, or whether they were just unlucky in the maelstrom. But the final siren was accompanied by a crescendo of boos and howls.

They won't write those articles if they want to keep their job. The way it is under the AFL thumb.

There's some truth in this. The biggest form of censorship is self censorship.

Terry wallet was saying we were screwed over then returned from the break reprogrammed saying Milney's missed goal early (which netted 7 points) and a few other misses cost us the game not umpiring. Grant Thomas wasn't allowed back on radio for standing up to the AFL.

Milney made up for his miss. It was a superb effort. Terry is talking through his arse on that.

Yeah I rang up and picked him up on this and then went KB for the inconsistency in decisions. Both left floundering.

Good work-I had got out of the car by that stage but the theme was heading that way. KB is a compromised old flog when it comes to the rules of the game.Basically saying they AFL doesn't have a problem it's the idiots that watch it. I wished it was the tigers and he might have found it a little less of a fan based problem. He sounded unconvinced even when saying it.

Fairly embarrassing article for West Coast. Measured is Greg Baum, so it's something that he calls them out for their "professional" (let's call it cheating shall we?) interpretation of the rules.

heard that when i was listening in the car.........saying it was the fans fault for not understanding the rules......clearly not listening to what callers were trying to say..yes we made mistakes and miss set shots and terrible disposals again costing us...but the frees were one way...we know milne plays for frees...never gets them ..selwoods do it and get them thats the problem....its not a level playing field.

KB and some others only hear what they want to hear.....have you heard the way all the radio and tv if someone bags Mc aveney they all protect him in a ..special way....for christ sake..listen to us and piss him off

I believe Finey at least had a go at, not the umpires, but at the weagles for continually cheating by falling forward, ducking or dropping to their knees.

And the frickin umps swallow it hook, line and sinker. If the weagles players are the cause of the supposed illegal tackles then maybe it should be play on, turds!

THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF MAKING THE f****** GF! They will be lucky to make the eight let alone week 1. Mob of tossers

Correct. In the eyes of others, including the AFL and its officials the umpires, we are back where we belong ... holding up the bottom rungs of the ladder.

And we should stay there.

Get used to it because that is the way it goes for bottom teams

Congrats Mark Hayes...

St Kilda fans were also seething at a lopsided 22-14 free-kick count, with several questionable decisions going against them in the dying minutes.

Eagles midfielder Matt Priddis kicked two goals from free-kicks midway through the final term which kept his team alive and gave them the opportunity to steal the match.

The last one paid against Sean Dempster was particularly harsh while a holding the ball call against Saints forward Ahmed Saad shortly afterwards was also touch and go.

Watters was diplomatic in his press conference, refusing to blame the decisions.

"I'm not allowed to talk about umpires ... I'll leave that to you guys to make comment."

But presser finished, Watters' frustration was clearly evident as he departed the media centre, leaving reporters to air his dirty laundry by asking what they thought of the umpiring.

They will say nothing, because of the money and fear of losing their AFL passes. The only ones who can influence the AFL are the media when it comes to the next rights deal. If the AFL wants their money, they can insist on changes. However, that will never happen.

More the fact that we as a club bend over and take it. We need a president to stand up and ask the questions to the AFL. If this was Collingwood , Eddie would be calling a meeting with Geish and letting everyone know about it. As a club we should be demanding a meeting with Geisham and ask the questions, like why was every other game this weekend allowed to go without umpire interference.

I'd have liked SW to say something anyway, we were very harshly treated. Cop the fine and stand up for the club...

You can tell from the hesitant way that commentators talk about the umpiring, that they are very mindful about upsetting the AFL. This is also reinforced to them by their senior management, as "future accreditation" issues are at stake.

The landslide of complaints to both radio stations after the game last night, certainly confirmed that there was unanimous anger at the poor umpiring. Commentators were very "meely-mouthed" in response - which said it all.
