Umpires
Carlton v Essendon umpires let everything go. Everyone saying it was well umpired. If it was it means they choose to dish the s*** up that we cop.

And they lost by 5 points. What if that happened to us? Just imagine the thread about it on here.

Re: Umpires
Halfway thru the last quarter, the commentators said "total frees so far- 15" that was the total !
There shoulda been a dozen droppin the ball, and several in-the-back that were ignored, one mark where the guy clearly pushed from behind and the ump was 13m away AND on the perfect angle behind, he was in the frame and saw 100% but chose to pay the mark. Unbelievable.

Yes the Garlett 'point' should have been a goal viewing the replaylummox wrote:Eastern wrote:Yes. They even let that Garlett non/goal go without a review in the 1st Q !!

Think that was made up for by the Betts 'goal' where his foot looked over the goal line while kicking it thru - definite point IMO

Re: Umpires
So what's the verdict was it well umpired? People on Big Footy and SEN are full if prrise for the umpiring yet it was nothing like what we've seen.

How mant times can you say the same line before it is similar to what we have seen? Issues.

Re: Umpires
You cant answer Plugger because you know Im right. Last nights game was apparently umpired brilliantly. Which means the s*** they dish up has to be deemed as poor.

Because like I have said to you many times, you see things in black and white. There is no grey. Games are umpired differently because all games are different and secondly most people watch games not involving your team through 2 eyes.
I unlike you would hardly know if the game is umpired differently because I dont watch the umpires, I watch the game and its amazing how you hardly notice them doing it that way.

Re: Umpires
All the talk back has been loaded with people saying how they let it go and how much better the game was. More frees to North last week than in the entire game last night.

Yep and so whats your point? Different game, different umpires and so on. Is there a set rule on how many frees in a game?

Re: Umpires
There clearly is no rules. Its interpretations and as we have seen they are much different in our game.

Re: Umpires
Yes, that's what I thought watching it on TV, but he might have got one millimetre of boot to the ball before all of the ball crossed the line. Those ones are forgivable, but the other one was not, especially when a review system is available. There was also a stupid waste of time with a boundary umpire who initially signalled it had gone through for a point and then, well, I don't know why it was reviewed. The best solution to poor goal umpiring decisions (and I don't always blame the goal umpire) is to have two goal umpires at each end. It means that they only have to cover 6.4 metres rather than 19.2 metres and unless they are blind, can always tell whether the ball has hit a post, which (as we know all too well) is the biggest boo boo possible.MCG-Unit wrote:...Yes the Garlett 'point' should have been a goal viewing the replay

I agree that Carlton supporters are entitled to squeal, not that they need any excuse.

Re: Umpires
No way, there were some shocking non decisions to Essendon, one 30metres out from goal was quite simply a marking infringement and had to be paid.perfectionist wrote:

I am with some here, you cannot change interpretations week to week. It reeks of pressure from outside on the umpires which then brings into question the integrity of their jobs.
If it is a free kick, pay it, I don't care if there are 80 free kicks a game if they are there pay them.
To say that only having 15 free kicks is well umpired, then it is well umpired by omission, the omission of umpiring to the laws of the game.

Re: Umpires
Umpiring, and Melbourne, remain the 2 biggest concerns for the AFL at the moment.
