Dal and Daisy - North Melbourne targets
Just had an interesting conversation with a colleague who is reasonably close to the inner action at the Kangas. He tells me they are having a specific fund raising event to stump up the sort of cash that will make them a serious player in the FA market. Unlike the filth, who only have to dip into Ed's biscuit tin under the bed, the Kangas need to plan ahead for this sort of thing. Way ahead. The targets of this campaign are what interested me. Daisy and Dal, with Simon Black, (yes that's right) as a back up. I doubt Blacky would leave the nest, but Daisy and Dal? I wonder.
You'd think Daisy would end up at Carlscum, as he is clearly Micky's love child, but Dal? That might be a tad more realistic. You'd be able to squeeze 3-4 decent years from him, and with an emerging midfield that has reasonably good depth, he wouldn't be lumbered with a hard tag too often. Personally, I'd hate to lose him, as we've lost far too many champions of the club. Our midfield depth is nothing to write home about either, so I would think he was still something of a priority. Don't forget over the past 4 years we've already lost Ball, Goddard and Gram. Despite what some may think about those individuals, fact is, as a trio, they form a significant loss, one we're not even close to recovering from at the moment.
So I'll throw it open. Do we get in first and offer him up for trade? Do we match any offer that is made for him, no matter what the cost (and risk the AFL changing the rules around compensation for the loss of a FA)? Over to you, forumites!

Sign him up as agreed then look at offers. The FA will change to no compensation as it should be either this year or next so trading maybe the better option. Keeping him maybe an even better option.

Carlton are capped out if Daisy went they would loose players. Carlton players should be targets as should the Swans who have surely maxed their generous cap. North, Port and the Dogs should be raising grounds all have some great semi developed lists and caps on their max salary cap.

did your mate get the memo that was 4 years old?
Dal, Daisy and Black?
They'll need walking frames by the end of next season

All three would be good gets for North for next season. Black was clearly BOG for Brisbane Friday night and would excell with Goldstein in the ruck.

They obviously think they're a big chance in the next 2-3 years. As Darryl Kerrigan would say, "Tell 'em they're dreamin'.paddy wrote:did your mate get the memo that was 4 years old?

Re: Dal and Daisy - North Melbourne targets
I'm sorry but I don't understand????
Why would NM be having fundraisers to get money to pay for players?
Surely they have to pay these players within their salary cap and therefore no amount of external fundraising would make any difference to their ability to fit additional players in under the current salary cap rules?

I think they pay less than 100% because they are struggling for cash.

Re: Dal and Daisy - North Melbourne targets
They're not exactly flush with funds. It's just what I was told, the inference being they don't pay 100% of their total cap. Someone else on here will know. Maybe they're 40.50K short.Mr Magic wrote:I'm sorry but I don't understand????

Re: Dal and Daisy - North Melbourne targets
But they must pay 95% (I believe it went up from 92.5%) so the difference between what they are paying and 100% can only be 400,000-500,000, nowhere near enough to get both Daisy and Dal (I reckon Dal would be on 450+ alone)plugger66 wrote:Mr Magic wrote:I'm sorry but I don't understand????

I think they pay less than 100% because they are struggling for cash.
SO that would mean them freeing up an additional 500,000 - 600,000 salary cap space which will not be bottom end players - they will have escalation in the pay rates of their current mid-tier players that will need to be also managed.
So who are they going to have to dump to fit Daisy and Dal in?

I might be naive but I believed Dal when he declared his allegiance to the Saints on TFS the other night. It seemed a significant statement to me + wearing Saints colours for the occasion. I might be wrong. Hope he stays.

Re: Dal and Daisy - North Melbourne targets
Agreed, magnifisaint, but Dal only has to squeeze out a few years between now and the next tv rights become due. There could be big changes after that and I fear there may be some "rationalisation" of teams. North surely must be squarely in der Fuehrer's sights after the Gold Coast debacle. They'll become nomads, or just merge with someone. I even wrote their new club song for next year. It goes like this.....magnifisaint wrote:North Melbourne won't be around in 10 years
So join in the chorus and sing it one and all,
Join in the chorus, North Melbourne's on the ball,
Good old North Melbourne, they're history you'll agree,
North Melbourne won't exist next year, just you wait and see! Oi!
