Geelong had bugger all money until just before they started winning. Not sure money had to do with our losses in 2009 and 10. Also the bulldogs were right up there then and they didnt really have money. Even the Hawks in 2008 were just building after nearly not being in the competition.

Of the last 13 premiers only Essendon (2000), West Coast (2006) and Hawthorn (2008) have not had their own team in the state league.
There is your answer.
Essendon now have their own reserves team, Hawthorn seem to have a very good relationship with Box Hill...They even got them to change from the Mustangs to the Hawks.

Re: flags for vic teams
Geelong were in trouble financially, until Brian Cooke arrived, so wouldn't be including them in your stats.

Spot on!! I think, from memory, in 2000 Essendon had their own VFL team. Even if they didn't those premiership players (Hird, Lucas,Lloyd, Heffernan etc), played VFL when Essendon had their own team.Life Long Saint wrote:Of the last 13 premiers only Essendon (2000), West Coast (2006) and Hawthorn (2008) have not had their own team in the state league.

It was during 2000 on when they changed to a team in Bendigo and look what happened?
