Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
When announced Jones was to replace Armo it was apparent we were headed south. Coaches call and a bad one at that.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Good Call.... Both out.
Hickey is really aweful, Farren is agood link... Problem with his kicking also

Hickey was Ok but some will keep it up because they can never say anything that will prove them wrong. Sad case.

Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
Didnt see or hear the game tonight as i had to work. but having said that after this loss i think its time to go into full on re-build mode. As mentioned in other threads this week its time to see how ledger, curren, shenton, dunell and lee go with a decent crack at senier level. Saunders, wright and murdoch should play as many games as possible for the rest of the year. Then the club can take the real hard decisions on players at seasons end.

It may be coincidence but we look like we have gone backwards since he come into the side. He can't mark a ball.

Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
Jones is finished...time for him to put the mascot suit back on!
Beau should of been dropped after Adelaide. Is down on any confidence whatsoever, runs to a contest, stops, then jumps, drops mark, does not impact contest. Time for Kosi to get those remaining games and remind opposition backman he does not care who he crashes into, certainly opens up forward line for smalls.
Jones & Beau are not part of the future, no currency. Similar for Blake and Kosi so our list should have another 6 to 10 turned over by season's end, hopefully Jones last turnover for St Kilda!!!

At least Hickey got the ball. McEvoy was absolutely smashed around the ground last night. When that Bulldogs player fumbled right in front if him in the centre of the ground and Macca just watched him try to collect the ball, which eventually he did, then was baulked as easy as pie before going for a run and directing a pin point pass into the forward line, turned out to be the turning point of the match in their favour.
Hickey turned the ball over, yes, but he certainly wasn't on his own out there last night. He needs game time to develop and so does Stanley. They are mobile and over 200 cms and these guys do not grow on trees and they take time to develop. And when they are developed the club needs to hold onto them.
Walsh is an example of someone we lost who could and should be playing for us now. His career at AFL level, at least, is finished. His call - but he has Kennelly to thank for that. The next time I hear Kennelly commentating or being interviewed on radio, I am going to call him on it. Any poster on this forum who knows he is going to be on radio can you alert me through PM please?

Some of the opinionated posting about this type of stuff really need to develop some perspective. Some of you that were bagging Gram and Dawson for years can see now where we are without those guys.samuraisaint wrote:This.plugger66 wrote:BigMart wrote:Good Call.... Both out.

Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
Samuraisaint mentioned that losing Gram and Dawson has cost us.
Gram was soft at the contest and was more of a netballer. He just stuck out a hand in hope; never once did he use body or commit to a contest. Dawson was only marginally better.

Well if you really think that then your knowledge of footy is poor and that is kind.

Gram and Dawson played well in a good side and both have been a loss!

outside runner
glad he is gone tbh
I dont reckon any AFL player is soft but each to their own. he was a great outside runner for the club and was equal Norm Smith winner in a losing GF. Soft players dont often do that. He wasnt a netballer and didnt just stick out his hand.

Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
Without Gram and Goddard this season, we lack line-breakers especially from half back. Wright is the best bet to do that role when he returns, and Roberton is doing it a bit more, but you can't beat experience.
Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
Jones is heading towards the end of his career and Beau is a stop-gap player until we develop and recruit the talent to take over him. I guess he's a bit like Setanta is to GWS. Both will continue to play until we find those players which may take 2-3 years. Calling for their heads now when our club is on the decline and lacking talent is uncalled for.Bernard Shakey wrote:Clint Jones and Beau whatever he calls himself should never play AFL again.
Finish the year at Sandy and back to the WAFL for both.

Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
looks like a big clean out at years end.
Blake, Kosi, Maister, Jones, TDL, Milny, Lenny.. cant see any of them staying on.... probably add Milera to that list, probably not much upside at 25 years of age he should be at his peak
Pressure is on Dunnell and Shenton as they are older than the other rookies/nonregulars...
Guys under 21 may get another year.. ie Curren, Lever, Staley, Ledger

Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
This is a bit random but on Gram I wonder if the benifits of sacking Gram will only be seen longer term. Yes he would be handy in the team now but you could look at it as a decission made by the "new" St Kilda".
Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
I'd be surprised and disappointed if TDL goes. No-one could see the sense in picking him up in the first place so surely there must be a plan? Dumping him after one year would be an abject failure.SuperDuper wrote:Blake, Kosi, Maister, Jones, TDL, Milny, Lenny.. cant see any of them staying on.... probably add Milera to that list, probably not much upside at 25 years of age he should be at his peak
And while Milera isn't impressing me at the moment, surely he's still got some improvement left?
Agreed on Dunell and Shenton, but Ledger will turn 22 at the start of next year and Curren is 21 in a few weeks so I'd say they're running out of time as well. But there's a practical limit to how many can go off the list in one year. If six older players go then not too many of the youngsters will be dumped, unless we want pick 120 in exchange.SuperDuper wrote:Pressure is on Dunnell and Shenton as they are older than the other rookies/nonregulars...

Re: Jones And Wilkes Should Never Play AFL Again
Gram was a good player - one of the best candy salesman of all time.
But with the club already suffering a huge image problem with perceived issues with the treatment of women (this isnt great for sponsorship - rightly or wrong or whatever the facts were - gram simply had to be cut loose.
Dawson is oft maligned because sometimes he has some brain fades and it looks awful. But 90% of the time hes reliable and 196cm defenders who can run and kick simply dont grow on trees and arent easy to replace.
Bringing back an out of touch Maister after a month of not playing - when he is only a fringe player anyway - was totally unfair on him. Maister's 100% is just good enough for AFL - but if hes only at 80% - hes not quite there. Bad selection . SHould only be picked when hes running red hot in the VFl.. Then by all means play him at AFL level.
Jones - all over now. Hes a list clogger and he just getting in the way of Saunders, Wright (and even maybe Curren).
