Saad's "PLAY ON"
What the hell was that? It was 21 seconds, no where near 30s. It's not a mistake, it's deliberate and incorrect targetting.
Was it the same twit that paid 50m against Stanley?

They've singled him out

Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
Or how about when he could barely move he was being held onto so much - no free. 10 seconds later Carlton free for someone being held. Saad had bad day out with the umps today. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
My understanding is they have 30s to start their run up. In that case it's just incorrect to call play on while he is moving towards goal regardless of the time (even if he's not running).

Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
what i do not understand is this: when the umpire's call time-on and set up where the mark is and give Saad his angle... surely the 30 seconds starts then? Otherwise, how else is he supposed to start his attempt on goal if he has not been told where the mark is? The umpires just seem to have no idea how much time has been used and how much he has left, but it seems so long since he marked it that they all of a sudden say 25 seconds is up.. seriously...
he has definitely been targeted

It never started. The clock has only ever stopped for play on. it was wrong. There are plenty of mistakes in a game. It is now 30 seconds to kick it but it was still wrong.
Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
...pretty sure they gave Milera a hurry on too..... Terry was moving in to take his shot and some maggot called out to him "20 seconds".......
..WTF was that about?...he was on his approach and about to kick the footy!!!....was that the umpire's deliberate attempt to distract him?

Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
Clear targetting. Say what you want about it being a mistake, but that "mistake" has not happened to any other player, only the one the umpiring department have said they have specifically talked to about his goal preparation. Singled out. Targeted.
That used to be the rule, yes. But we all know how the AFL work, they change a rule midsession, "announce" it as a tiny tidbit in the middle of a random Giesh press conference, maybe a small press release that then disappears off the AFL website as quick as it was put up, and everyone gets confused. The rule now is, you have 30-seconds to take your kick after your mark, regardless of starting your run up.kosifantutti wrote:My understanding is they have 30s to start their run up. Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
No, they have 30 seconds to kick it from the time the mark or free is paid. If time on is called for any reason, that period is not included in the 30 seconds. There is no doubt the umpire made a very bad error in the case of Ahmed. Fortunately, he kicked a goal and the kick wasn't after the siren in a GF.kosifantutti wrote:My understanding is they have 30s to start their run up. Pretty sure that the 30sec rule does not apply after the siren has gone...The player is hardly time wasting.perfectionist wrote:No, they have 30 seconds to kick it from the time the mark or free is paid. On the OP...I watched that on the night and called it out to those around me. We all agreed that it was nowhere near the 30sec limit.
Poor umpiring and tantamount to grand standing.
It was umpire 19, wasn't it? He makes Razor ray look like a wallflower.

It does. I hope the players know that. And yes, it was umpire 19 - Chris Kamolins.Life Long Saint wrote:Pretty sure that the 30sec rule does not apply after the siren has gone...perfectionist wrote:No, they have 30 seconds to kick it from the time the mark or free is paid. Then we have another rule that makes zero sense.perfectionist wrote:It does. I hope the players know that.Life Long Saint wrote:Pretty sure that the 30sec rule does not apply after the siren has gone...
I was labouring under the misapprehension that this rule was brought into to stop players wasting time whilst taking a shot at goal. The "Matthew Lloyd" rule was to stop players pulling up socks that are already pulled up, tossing grass into the air in an indoor stadium and taking 45-60 seconds to kick the goal. All because it's chewing up time on the clock.
Why on Earth does it matter how long someone takes once the siren has gone?

Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
This is an issue that the Club must take up with the AFL Umpiring dep't. They need to ensure that Saad is not persecuted by the umpires on this. He needs to be focusing on his kick, not how many seconds he may or may not have left.

Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
I'll say this and I don't usually buy into these conspiracy theories but I distinctly remember the AFL bending their interpretation of the rules for one mega super star in Buddy Franklin and allowing him to move off the line on a set shot for goal without calling it play on. I reckon our team and in particular SAAD has been targeted on set shot time. Why are the umps allowed to annoy the player while he is taking his shot. They should only be allowed to call play on after the legal time has elapsed.
If it was Buddy Franklin he would be allowed to take 2 minutes.

Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
No, what I meant plugger was, years ago if someone marked near goal and didn't play on, the ump would blow for time off, then blow for time back on when the player was ready to kick it.plugger66 wrote:stevie wrote:Why don't the umps stop the time clock like they used to? Was that because the qtrs were 25 mins plus time on but they are different. So much time is wasted now, regardless of the 30 second thing
Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
incorrect call. can't wait to hear the geish come out and defend the ump while looking like an imbecile like he did when justifying the in the back rule.

Yeh I noticed that as well. was a terrible call from that runt.... looks like the umps and AFL are out to ruin Saads run (walk) up...Munga wrote:What the hell was that? It was 21 seconds, no where near 30s. It's not a mistake, it's deliberate and incorrect targetting.

Will the explanation involve the use of "bumper bars" and "degrees of extension of the arms" ???Old Mate wrote:incorrect call. can't wait to hear the geish come out and defend the ump while looking like an imbecile like he did when justifying the in the back rule.

Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
Yes it was fortunate that he kicked that goal but I thought that the next time he lined up he looked rushed and a bit flustered and ??shanked it badly for memory.perfectionist wrote:No, they have 30 seconds to kick it from the time the mark or free is paid. Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
Look I'm sick of Saad's silly routine.
Why does he go back 50 meters from where the mark was taken?
Yes I know he's Egyptian and its a foreign game to him, but that's no excuse.
He should learn to take a set shot just like the other 300 odd AFL players do and get on with it.

Re: Saad's "PLAY ON"
He can do whatever routine he likes… in the same amount of time allowed to every other player.
This wasn't the case last night, he was clearly targeted and given less time than many other shots last night.
The umpire has to set the mark, then should start counting out the 30 seconds (or whatever the deemed time limit is decided on) then call play on… they don't need to rush players and yell out every 3 seconds.
