Re: Votes
All the following had the same amount or more clangers than Jack friday night.BigMart wrote:I just don't get it?
A big part of the problem is (and has been for years) is ball use and yet players are lauded when, generally they are ineffective.
Love Jack's intent
His disposal hurts
Roo, Fisher, Dal, Kosi, Saunders, Saad, Stanley, Newnes, Wright
Re: Votes
Are clangers the only indicator of ineffective disposal?
No...
If you even attempt an argument to suggest his disposal is up to standard.... You'd be kidding yourself, everyone acknowledges it...
The original butcher..... Jack the Ripper
Love his intent..... His break away speed.... His offensive effort
His decision making is bizarre and disposal lacks composure...
He had 75 super team dream coach points.... Due to his lack of effectiveness with the pill

Re: Votes
Don't players get 'dream team' points for 'chipping' the ball backwards/sideways/backwards/sideways? Going nowhere but racking up 'dream team' points.
Personally I don't put much emphasis on 'dream team' points when determining how a player performed.
It's a concept that is biased against negating defenders (and forwards) and rewards attacking defenders without reflecting how their opponents went.
As an example look at Geary's game on Sidebottom. IMO he sacrificed possessions/disposals to ensure his opponent was stopped. Under 'dream team' rules he gets very little recognition for that.
Do you think the Saints coaches care what Geary's
dream team' score was?

Re: Votes
Magic, you made a point, but didn't give your opinion. Do you think Jack was average with the ball against Coll??
And
Agreed, DT SC points are not that important and really only give indication of midfield disposal effectiveness.....doesn't take into account, accountability..... Don't really buy into them, but...
2 points....
.....Jack isn't an accountable mid, ie/his opponent was generally Swan
..... Why was Jack's score so low, given his stats??

Re: Votes
BTW
I do think relevancy of stats has been placed as a huge emphasis nowadays.... There is a huge waiting for effective long kicks, score involvements, pressure acts and contested ball.....
In fact, they are probably a reasonable reelection now.... Unlike a few years ago.

Re: Votes
Looks pretty right to me. I suppose the decision has to be made though. Does one person decide the 5 best or about 50. I suppose if the one person knew the footy good enough like a coach then maybe. I reckon you also need to be at the ground to really see all the game. I reckon some who voted were.

Regarding Jack's game,
I thought, looking at the game on tv, he was pretty good in the first half, less so in the second.
He certainly isn't the best disposer of the footy.
But he gets the footy.
Re: Votes
If we let CJ off the chain and allowed him to hunt the footy.... He would average 25+ easily.
Would that be a good thing?
3 major parts to footy
Winning the footy..... Jack does this well
Using the footy....... Below average
Defending without the footy...... Still developing
Is he a good enough user, to be a ball hunter??
BTW I really like some aspects of his game...... In one area I think he is near elite.

IIRC he uses the footy pretty well when he's having a shot at goal (especially a snapshot)BigMart wrote:If we let CJ off the chain and allowed him to hunt the footy.... He would average 25+ easily.

I wonder if his 'average' usage in general play is more a product of 'tiring'?
Does anybody know if his disposal gets worse as the game goes on?

Re: Votes
All of his inective kicks are toe-poke short kicks.....
I think you'll find he has a 2 major flaws in his technique..... He kicks from the outside in, and in golfing terms .... Cuts the ball
It actually makes him very effective around the body. He is also good stationary kick.... A very good set shot... His flaw can be overcome if he is in control of his drop and swing.
His other error comes from kicking without balance, which highlights his first flaw in general play.... Because he does everything at 100mph, the slightest miss-drop has to be compensated for, and he in-steps the ball because he cuts it....
If he took two or three balance steps, he would be able to spot up kicks better.....
He is like a bowler with a furious run up and out of control action.... He ain't going to land the ball consistently.
Dal, Gwilt, Kosi, Siposs and others are good kicks, because they are in control of their technique...... Jack is not when he is at full revs

Re: Votes
And I was really enjoying not reading dribble....
The quote button sh*ts me even more now...
Btw
Jacks 4 possession second half would have been slightly down on his direct opponent, they took over in the midfield after HT. Not sure half a good game is vote worthy..... Perhaps if I were at the game I would have seen all the other great work he was doing?
