Re: Stanley to the ruck/ fwd
Nope. Nights like tonight will happen.
Still remember Maxy getting 8 kicked on him by Neitz... For Rhys to be thrust into the role from never having played there, and at the top level, and to do as well as he's done, is frankly a credit to him.

His disposal out of the back half has been good. Something to work with.

Re: Stanley to the ruck/ fwd
Give him a season down back playing the opposition's number 1 forward. Lets try and pick up another key back in the trade period and then swing him back forward again next year. He'll be better for the experience of playing on the likes of Cloke, Franklin etc.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

He has to learn ow to play on good big forwards.
He will have learnt a lot tonight...and in the game review they will emphasise that he needs to keep watching the ball and not just his opponent.

Yep, it's simple. He's tall and fast with long arms. Play the ball, not the man. Leave him in defence.
We have White coming through and Lee hopefully and Hickey. Plenty of tall timber who can and will play forward.

Re: Stanley to the ruck/ fwd
Stanley to play only forward and chopping out in the ruck would be a good idea.

But seriously - leave Rhys where he is. hes learning the caper. Needs 50 games down back to become a gun.
Becoming a gun takes time for most players. throwing him around means he will become a master at nothing and just a GOP and a wasted talent.
IN any case we have noone else.
On top of that
Cloke is going to tear apart a lot of defenders in the nest 2 years.

Re: Stanley to the ruck/ fwd
Stanley just got fast tracked. It was a tough lesson but no one would have done any better and next time he will be that much better. I would back him in as our Fb for the next 10 years. he has speed and reach but went too focussed on Cloke.

Agree re watching the opponent and not the ball - he will learn.saintsRrising wrote:Greg T wrote:Jesus get him off cloke ,get him the th ruck or fwd

Id have actually liked to see him play off Cloke a little tonight - a metre or so and use his leap, close speed to spoil and forget bodying Cloke is to big.
I really think he ought to get the tapes of Dustin Fletcher at his best out and have a look.......not a huge frame....but effective..and great fist/closing speed.
Stanleys disposal out of baclk half was top notch.
He'll be ok.
