Re: Gwilt available
i'd work him back through the VFL...
plenty of competition for his spot, we're not contenders so no obvious need to play him, hasn't set the world on fire lately... no need to rush him

Re: Gwilt available
He'd be giving away 5cm, 8kgs and a lot of match fitness. Lynch would love it. If Gwilt ever got into a marking contest he'd give away the free kick like usual as he's out-bodied and out-marked. Gwilt has been very ordinary since his ACL injury. He has lost some pace and agility (which he lacked in the first place) and his kicking has gone from a huge strength to a concern.SainterK wrote:I see him as a good matchup for lynch?
I don't think he has the athleticism to be a rebounding defender anymore and he certainly isn't a full back. If he gets his kicking back to his previous standard then he could still be useful as a medium defender and designated kicker, but right now his form doesn't place him in the best 22 IMO. Should have to force his way back through Sandy.

Re: Gwilt available
i'd argue he was struggling for form pre-acl MSG.
Was very good in 2010 but struggled since then

I don't remember it that way Sceptic and I think you're being harsh. He had a breakout year in 2010 and saved our arses a couple of time in the drawn GF. I thought he carried that form into the 2011 season as well and we were spewing when he went down.skeptic wrote:i'd argue he was struggling for form pre-acl MSG.

I agree though that his form has been not as good since doing his knee for understandable reasons and that he should probably play at least 2 games in the VFL.

Re: Gwilt available
How many defenders lacking in match fitness and practice do you want in the team?SainterK wrote:I see him as a good matchup for lynch?
Fisher and Dempster have bot obviously suffered due to lack of games...as did Simpkin who was dreadful.
Why would Gwilt be any different? Give him some Sandi games first.

Fair enough - I thought that he got exposed a bit more as a defender in 2011 esp Vs Essendon and had a bit more attention throughout the year forcing him to kick long under pressure more often.
Agree RE the drawn GF

Re: Gwilt available
I think he was playing excellent footy in 2011 and would have been in our top 3 players up until the injury. I remember a few were tipping him as a chance for the B&F before he went down. A few others had dropped off from their incredible '09/10 form but he kept improving IMO.skeptic wrote:Fair enough - I thought that he got exposed a bit more as a defender in 2011 esp Vs Essendon and had a bit more attention throughout the year forcing him to kick long under pressure more often.

Re: Gwilt available
Gwilt should have a game or two at Sandy, if he shows something then bring him in
