After 5 rounds=14th..disappointed Yes/No

Post: # 1327098Post Greg T »

Certainly thought we d be slightly better than 14th at this stage of the year.
Could of / should have wins against GC & Tigers .
Next 3 weeks Coll,Carlton Adelaide ,not looking forward to them
Great test for the kids and character of the senior players.
They must stand firm or its 1-7
Thoughts.....

Sad that with a little bit of better last quarters we could have been where Sydney are with a team of kids. Disappointed but not devastated.

Yes.....as should NOT have lost to GC.

Effort in that game was poor despite the post match comments of SW.

However we have been rebuilding since we headhunted Pelchen. So only question now is how quickly can we be rebuilt.
Pelchen's first two years look good, and his multi-trades have fastracked the process.

Hopefully he can use our salary cap room to grab a good young player or two either in trades or FA deals.

Not worried just don't finish bottom ,pick a heap of mids in draft & uncontracted players ,

Will come into contention the same as West Coast next very confident .

On timing if you are going to finish down the ladder this is the year particularly as draft is not compromised.

Have gut feeling there will be a fair bit of player movement from Melbourne & Brisbane who both have a huge number of players uncontracted next year.

GC game was atrocious....

The rest pretty much to script

Thought we might steal Ess or Rich but they clearly showed they are better.

The Tigers & Swans losses weren't that bad at all. Essendon are very good & drugfucked so hard to gauge. GC loss was a disgrace.

6/10 for the season so far.

Yeah I thought we would be a bit higher. Round 1 was aweful.

I'm not really happy with where we are in regards to the ladder but we have lost a couple of games that we could have pinched.

I can see a future though. We have some talent on board and we should win a few games that most think we wont.

I hate losing.

Agree with big mart, disappointed in GC result and effort, thought we could possibly jag one of the others, 2/3 was my expectation and 3/2 I thought possible. Like some of what I see but concerned about some of the others!

Maybe this year?

Thought we'd be 2 - 3 at this stage. Enjoying watching the kids. I'm not that concerned with our win loss ratio this year. More about how the kids are developing for me.

I'll be happy if we see massive improvement in our younger players than winning. With the draw we could easily be 1-7 by Round 8.

Disappointed with round one but realistically should be 2/3 Tigers was one we lost through skill levels.

Just keep playing the kids and get games into them this year. We are no chance making a GF but maybe a sneaky one to make the 8 if others falter through the year.
Not worried if we dont make it just want to see improvement and development of the newbies and guidance from our experienced guys to see them through.
Like year 2000/01 when we were horrible it was great seeing guys Nick R Koz Goddard Dal and joey and Lenny coming through seeing that these guys would get us up the ladder again.
Just keep supporting the club dont drop off

Cheers

the trend has been there so if this was our "bottom" year then great.........Im not sure it is yet though......even Thurs 2 ageing stars played huge roles in getting us that close...next year could be worse!!

Hayes goes I do fear we will enter a period of real up/down performances cause not sure Armo/Jack have the ability to take it up a level when needed...hope so.

That's so true. Our big guns are still carrying us and have done for a while.
I suggest next year wil be worse as our ageing stars leave.

No....any unhappiness I have about our losses is compensated by the willingness of the coaches to give our youth a go...........I like this because it tells me that the coaches are not putting their own interest (KPIs such as win loss ratio) infront of the club's medium to long term interest.......

Pwoit are you on the gear by any chance?

Sneaky chance of making the 8?

You gotta be kidding yourself!

Making the eight means winning at least 12 games. There are 17 rounds left. We'd need to win 11 games and lose only 6 from here in.

I think there's a sneaky chance the moon is rainbow coloured and the grass is pink also.

Apart from Roo, and the promise of new young talent coming through, can't say it has been a good start. We are suffering from the poor recruiting of recent years and lack a decent middle 6 players. The jury is out on some coaching aspects- tackling, midfield and forward structures, skills. Underachiever 5/10

The team has been poorly prepared and coached to date - you think the coaching group would have learnt something after the tardy start last year but obviously not! So for me it is a very disappointing start and IMO it won't get much better !

Thanks, stinger.
A classic line by Caro -
"The Saints' history-making foray into New Zealand was a success mitigated only by the result".

How can success be mitigated by the result (by our loss, presumably)?.. as we all know, only "failure" (or something harsh) can be mitigated (as in made less harsh)... moreover, it takes a win to mitigate things, not a loss.
So success is harsh according to Caro's logic - but it (our success) was made less harsh (mitigated) by our loss.
So a Loss is good - Success is bad.
