Get to the ground for a change. We aren't good enough. No one is gutless except the pathetic you. Sometimes sides just aren't good enough. Get used to it instead of calling players gutless
Just got back and you are kidding aren't you? At a very considerable stretch you could say that Saad TDL and Milne just couldn't make their tackles stick against much bigger opposition but watch the replay for Milera's effort, he hung back from the player with the ball on a number of occasions when there was no reason tactically, no corral... he was really poor. With Maister running all over the ground we were far too small up forward and doubt we'll play 4 smalls again in a hurry.
We need Dempster and Gwilt back before we'll be competitive, we were outbodied all over the ground.

Get used to reality guys...you will feel so much better and in 5 years times, who knows, you may be able to celebrate something.......maybe.
Have waited 40 odd years. Not sure I can make it through another long period of being cellar dwellers and totally irrelevant.

Dig in. We're a bottom six-eight club. Accept, and embrace, that we're re-building.

You don't mind losing.... If you're not good enough
If you accept efforts like I watched today, you are as big a joke as a supporter as the team was...
I'm glad I didn't go, even though I have paid to do so.... I could not, would not watch insipid efforts from inept so called professionals....
I have admired Dal for many years and defended him continually... Not today, he just didn't try.
Milera played the weakest game of footy possibly ever witnessed in a saints jumper.... And he knew it, and hung his head in shame after being subbed out.
Unfortunately laziness was exposed.... And if the player are not embarrassed I would be disgusted.
Geary, Roberton, Nick, Fisher (first half)..... Displayed the level of consistent ability, consistency an intensity required.
There is a reason Milne and Saad had so much energy to have a harmless wrestle at HT ...... They would have had plenty of energy
or simply become one with reality. We had our day in the sun, what is now required is what we had years ago....patience and faith. The people bitching now are those who didn't suffer the tough times of the 80's
Still doesn't excuse some soft efforts I saw tonight.
Not that they came from the youngins.
I keep repeating myself, but Simpkin, Stanley, Geary, Wright, Roberton were our defence this arvo, that's so completely different to look at on the team sheet....not that many games between them.
Chuck a fit Dempster in there to help coach them, instruct them and lead by example, and they'll come good.
Essendon wanted the ball more than we did. Hit packs harder, won the hard ball easily spread hard, and won the contested ball. we were lucky that we didn't lose by more than 10 goals.
Forget about the less than 20 gamers our experience did not lead by example.

Years of it to come.
Least Lyon had instilled a forward pressure system that's gone to buggery now.
Jesus this crap hard to watch.
New Zealand should be a grin

About sums it up. But to be fair, when the selectors choose a team full of flankers, then you are asking for trouble.
Some perplexing selection decisions. 4 smalls, really? We were better after one was subbed off. But we were still a tall short. Would have been better with Hickey in to cover the second ruck/forward.
Sam Fisher was poor. His first poor game for 5 years so let's cut him some slack.
Milera was terrible. At least we now know for sure. I don't expect him to get many more chances.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
I will say this about Milera, though he was comprehensively beaten with minimal influence... I thought he worked really hard today... was al over the ground and frequently made it to contests... just couldn't get his hands on the pill
he may need to develop some more upper body strength
A couple of points -
once the horse had bolted why did it take so darn long for Stanley to be moved up the ground to contest the ruck duels?
why wasn't Dunnell or White in the side when they were amongst the best for the reserves last week?
why didn't we play Hickey - could have done with a second ruckman tonight - or at least someone who could try and hold Gumbleton?
why did it take so long for Seb Ross to replace Milera? - it was the right move but too late.
If Kosi plays as well tomorrow as he did last week will he get guernsey in Wellington?
Did we save Siposs for next Thursday at the expense of tonight?
And what of Tom Ledger, where is his place now that Newnes looks like missing weeks?
They seem to be chasing and tackling in the Demons fashion- no real intent or desire, maybe they expect to get shrugged or baulked- which happens far too often. No heart. Thats what disappoints me.
A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.
Remember one of the 10 Commandments : Thou shalt have no other team before thee
When the whole structure of the team is wrong, you can't entirely blame the players. Four small forwards was a disaster in round one, so why repeat the experiment, particularly when two of those forwards are as soft as butter. When you only have two tall forwards, and one of them has to go into the ruck on a regular basis, leaving 5 smalls and one tall up forward, then you're asking for trouble, particularly when that rucking forward is completely out of his depth as a ruckman (not his fault).
Also, when the opposition has three giant forwards, and you've only got one key defender over 191cm tall, then at some point you'll be exposed. The amount of energy expended by undersized defenders in covering much bigger opponents is taxing on the whole defensive unit. This is compounded by the ball being rebounded easily from our forward line due to the issues in the first paragraph.
Add to that the fact that the same 6 players were stuck with the midfield duties for the whole game, then it's no wonder that we look like we're struggling to run and spread. Had Lee played, then we would have had three tall forward targets for most of the game. Had Blake played, we would have had a competent 2nd ruckman who could also have assisted in defense. David Hille would have been a good opponent for him. Maister could have stayed forward for the whole game.
It's not the only reason we lost, but it certainly didn't help having the kind of team that was selected.

good comments. agree with all this. I felt the coach could have put Milera into the middle, and we should have retained either Lee or Siposs who can run into space, mark, and kick goals. coaching blunder tonight from which Watters will hopefully learn.

We will hit rock bottom by 2015 and be in the bottom 4 for the next 3 years after that. If we re-build correctly we may be back in the finals by 2020 at the earliest.
The decline was even quicker than what I thought. This is a good thing though because maybe we will back in the finals earlier than 2020 as I had stated above.
