Oh, that's right.... You never could?
And yes, stk would mean more to Brendon than us, are you silly enough to believe othewise?! It's like saying ANZAC day means more to The Defence Force than Aussie Cicilians... Of course it does...
Have you ever gone into battle for the saints...
And you don't have to be Einstein to work out why he was emotional even Watters spelled it out FFS
So did hird
Are you really that ignorant??

Re: Brendon Goddard you star
spot on johhny
why the angst at Goddard or the club?
Brendon wanted to stay - he had a price
club wanted him to stay - not at any price as we are sliding
they got divorced. it happens but when dust settles all will see this move was right for both.
good luck to Goddard but hes playing finals this year.
the real story is : we are in deep shyte for some time.

Just cant understand how people are saying that Goddard still loves us cos he cried. I'm crying too, cos we are in deep shyte.
Re: Brendon Goddard you star
More tha the tears, I think goddards language summed it up. He referred to essendon as 'they', not 'we'. Sounds like he doesn't truly feel part of their club yet

I back in my boys in but once a soldier goes off and joins the nazis he is nothing more than target practice. Going in to battle- he misses his mates just like he did when he left caulfield grammar. Not many players love the club and the jumper like fans do. Hope he has s*** games against us and that's it.
Re: Brendon Goddard you star
i refuse to read any thread on bj ffs...
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

Not THE money, but some of it at least...suss wrote:We should've paid the money. I can't imagine we have the players to spend the salary cap on anyway.
If Lenny, Milne, Blake, Kosi, Schneider even retire at years end.
Who will get the $$$ ?
No quality free agent will come if they want out to win a flag.

No one just plays for the jumper
What is this 1965??
It is their livlihood..... Their future.... Their life
You do realise, even the great Lenny doesn't play for free... He gets 500 000k as re numeration for his efforts... Deservedly.

Re: Brendon Goddard you star
Poor BJ.
Reasons he might be crying.
1. An unexpected drug side effect
2. He just realised he invested his money with Lyon's old financial planner.
3. He can't sleep at night because his new Essendon funded mansion is right under the flight path
4. He just found out what the acronym BJ means
5. They took away his access to Saintsational.
Feel free to add more

Seriously, the OP knows a bit about footy, but little about psychology.
If we accept that Goddard did love St Kilda and misses his mates who he played alongside for a decade - both propositions I find to be likely - then it stands to reason that he has sold out his mates either for more money, or for more success. And that he feels bad about that choice.
He knows that many players before him stayed in similar circumstances - Hayes, Harvey, Barker. Not to mention plenty of others at other clubs - the current Geelong list for starters. With Ball, I found it easier to understand him going as Lyon clearly didn't value him, but Goddard was valued by Watters. it's silly to use figures such as $500k and compare it to what price people on here would put on loyalty. That's less than a year's salary for Goddard, over 4 years. He chose that cash over staying with his mates, and over probably captaining our club.
Sure, he's sad he isn't a Saint any more, and sure he misses his mates. No doubt he also realises that he gave up the chance to captain his club. But the emotions that bubble over, the ones he can't consciously admit to, are guilt and shame at the fact that in a game that is all about putting the team above yourself Goddard made a decision which was about himself and only himself.
