Saints consider first female president
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/s ... z2QdVdac1p
Interesting.
As St Kilda turns to replacing Greg Westaway, Olympic hockey gold medallist Danni Roche has emerged as a possible first female president of an AFL club.
Queen's counsel Jack Rush, businessman Peter Summers and Roche are the leading candidates to take the top job when Westaway stands aside at the end of the year.
Saints chief executive Michael Nettlefold said on Tuesday it was more than likely the new president would come from the present board.
Roche, who won gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, has held finance and commercial positions at Telstra and was a director of the investment firm owned by Essendon president David Evans.
Soon after joining the Saints board, Roche was influential in the decision to axe defender Jason Gram for failing to comply with conditions relating to his behaviour.

This would be a great move, should it happen. Exactly how "influential" was she in the Gram situation I wonder...
Now lives in Geelong...

Re: Saints consider first female president
A fairly long bow on the part of the journo/headline writer. A MORE ACCURATE headline would read;
SAINTS TO ELECT NEW PRESIDENT FROM WITHIN.
Having said that, I am comfortable that we have plenty of talent on our board and that any one of 4 or 5 of the current directors could quite capably take over when Greg Westaway stands down !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

You might only give them an inch Cairnsman
(Apologies to SainterK, PeytonPlace, bratty, and the other female posters here for that flagrantly sexist joke)
Lance or James??

Could care less if she's a woman or Caro...- just want the best person for the job!!
Sick of politically correct appointments - CEO's pandering to the latest push as opposed to focussing on the right people
If that's a woman - great, if not great

Re: Saints consider first female president
Don't care about the gender.
Do care about it being the best person for the job.
Club is slipping out of public view. Worries me that it will have a big impact on our ability to attract new sponsors and new members.

Agree... It's one thing to keep a low profile, but we seem right off the radar. I hope a new president will get out there and push the club a lot harder in the areas of sponsorship and marketing.evertonfc wrote:Don't care about the gender.

Re: Saints consider first female president
In all honesty (disregard my cheeky comment) a female prez may just be the type of publicity we need in David Koch/Port Adelaide kinda way - Attract sponsers / family and female friendly culture.

Re: Saints consider first female president
Key tenet of a good president: get the club front and centre in the public and media's view and NOT JUST WHEN THERE'S A SCANDAL.
Otherwise, you're down there with Bulldogs/Melbourne/North, which, it terrifies me to say, is the space we have come to occupy.

As long as she can do the job and actually appear and speak I think it would be fantastic for the club. Actually fantastic for football.
Couldnt care if Boy George was the pres as long as they actually do for the club.

Hopefully the board will always have one or more members that have played the game. Having some technical knowledge of the product can be very helpful.

How come successive Geelong presidents have never done this?
Club will be in the media big time come the NZ game.
At the moment the AFL love the Saints and what we are doing, they love the way we have embraced NZ, love the talent we have on our board and our new sponsor. Source: member of AFL executive in a conversation in the last fortnight.
Don't need to be a media whore to be a good President.
