Gram V's Roberton
I basically see it as a straight swap of players running off the HBF...
Who do most prefer to have in the side right now??..
Roberton is taller, seems to play slightly taller... At his best Gram ran the lines better, kicked it longer.. Gram had his detractors, but truth is at his best he was a very good player and important to our team...
I have been very very impressed with Roberton, and honestly believe he is already playing at a level Gram was the last 2 seasons, and within a few weeks will probably have stepped up beyond that as he becomes more comfortable.. Keeping in mind, while Gram had had good games in the last 24 months, his consistent best was more than 2 years ago..
A very good pick up IMO, and while this could've been added to the 'Roberton' thread, thought the comparison with Gram is very telling as it's pretty much one in, one out, and at the time I was worried Gram would be hard to replace, and Roberton was more of a project... Feel much better now...
My choice is Roberton..

Better player
At his Peak Gram was a VG player.... RU B&F in 2007 and played plenty of outstanding games.
But right now, with Gram being 29 and injury prone, unfit and waning
Roberton quite easily.

Roberton by a mile. Still has years of improvement in him.
Gram was good for a year or three but was costing us some big $$$.
Grams ability to sell candy was outstanding but his kicking although 'long' was often sh*thouse.
Roberton looking like a 200 game player at this rate.

Re: Gram V's Roberton
After losing so many decent players recently for no return it is nice to get one going the other way who looks like he can play.

Re: Gram V's Roberton
has an Errol Flynn dashness about young Roberton. I like that fact that he is looking up and checking proper options. good overall disposer of the ball. something you couldn't say about Gram. and Gram had no overhead game so Roberton for me every day of the week.

agree... think it suits him and adds a bit of flair... but he seems a dogged, determined type so its a nice contrast...SainterK wrote:Bring on the headbands I say
Similar to that young Footscray HBF who also wears the headband, Easton Wood, in look and style... He did his hammy over the weekend unfortunately.. Good players...

Re: Gram V's Roberton
Roberton very well thought of as a young person well before he was drafted. Had only one interest; playing footy. Quality guy and with a young family we can be reasonably confident that he will remain a stable member of the team and club. I was happy we drafted him because of his height and because he wanted to get back to Frankston for family reasons. Perfect fit really.
Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.

Re: Gram V's Roberton
Grammy was a great player when the side was flyin.
I'd love him in the side now alongside Roberton.
Roberton will / should be a great player as well.shown some great form already.
Hard to compare....

Re: Gram V's Roberton
This was the biggest misconception about Gram right throughout his career - that he was a "good kick". He was always a long kick, but never an accurate or reliable one.Con Gorozidis wrote: Grams ability to sell candy was outstanding but his kicking although 'long' was often sh*thouse.
Roberton is looking really promising but I think he's a different type of player to Gram.

Re: Gram V's Roberton
Gram only knew one way, bombs away, and apparently lived the same way.
Roberton can run and carry, make a good decision, and better still execute that decision.

OP is wrong roberton didnt come in for gram. he came in for winmar.
comparing gram to roberton is apples and oranges. gram for wright would be a better comparison

Re: Gram V's Roberton
Roberton seems to me to be the replacement for Gilbert in the back half, with Wright being the Gram replacement. Either way, Roberton is looking like a bargain pick-up.
Re: Gram V's Roberton
In the first 2 rounds our back 6 was pretty much exactly the same as previous seasons except for Gram out, Roberton in...defacto wrote:OP is wrong roberton didnt come in for gram. he came in for winmar.

There were some injury absentees and reshuffling, but the names were the same, with only that 1 swap... Different players, same backline...

I thought his 2006 season was his best, really came onto the scence that year, I remember he & BJ killed it for us in round 1 against the Eagles...fingers wrote:"At his best" problem is Gram was his best once. 2009 GF.
