Siposs has to play forward
He was drafted to us as a forward and the way the make up of the team is heading, there's no future for him back there... (though if he's playing back to improve his defensive skills that's ok too )
Current backline is more or less
Geary, Stanley, Blake
Roberton, Fisher, Wright/Newnes
with Dempster out injured
Now Rhys looks a lock at FB for now though we'll get a sense of how good a backman he is in the coming weeks.
Blake looks like he needs to be transitioned out though his back up ruck work seemingly gets him the nod for now... either way his time is marked and will most likely make way for Simpkin at some point
Roberton looks set as a tall HBF
Wright and Newnes are pbly fighting for a spot until Dempster gets back and whilst both are exciting prospects will pbly start on the bench
Fisher is the interesting one. Whilst he is an elite player... it's never been because of his 1:1 key position work but rather his ability to play loose, set up play etc Now that he's getting on in football terms, likely losing a step and some strength I think we're in a position where we have lessen the responsibilty on him, play to his strengths and develop our next CHB.
To put it clearly... he's reaching a point where he needs to play more like a loose man HBF ala Fletcher rather than as a KPP
I see our defense set uo like this in the future
Simpkin, Stanley, Geary
Fisher, CHB, Dempster
We clearly need a Frawley/Brown something a rather player to take up that post. That means Newnes and Wright will transition in and out for Geary, Fisher and Sean... and it may even mean that Fisher plays key back for 10min a 1/4 so Stanley could ruck if need be.
Either way... too many players around there for Siposs to be in the mix.
The guy is a clever forward with a booming kick. Needs to be played that way and develop as one

Re: Siposs has to play forward
Never understand the kicking thing as a reason to play forward. Im happy for him to play forward if that is his best position but I dont go along with him him beeing a booming kick as any reason. most sides have at least one booming kick in their backline. We have none without Siposs.
Re: Siposs has to play forward
Going off this weeks performance, there is no reason why Wright can't become a regular player from now on. Only at St Kilda do we insist that very exciting and solid youngsters are obligated to be in and out of the side just for the sake of it.
Unless his form drops or he gets injured, he deserves a spot.
Especially next year, where you have said that even then Wright will transition in and out... next year he should be a starting 22 every week going off his preseason form and his game this week.
Set the bar high!

What if there's someone better than him?FQF wrote:Unless his form drops or he gets injured, he deserves a spot.

Gee I reckon Gwilt and Stanley would be contenders for having a booming kick.plugger66 wrote:Never understand the kicking thing as a reason to play forward. That's why I said going off this weeks performance. Obviously if there is a clearly better option than him then that's a given. But again, going off his form so far, and knowledge of the teams needs in the short and long term, and knowledge of who would be his competition, he shouldn't be an automatic "in and out of the side" player.bergholt wrote:What if there's someone better than him?FQF wrote:Unless his form drops or he gets injured, he deserves a spot.

Stanley's long and accurate kick-ins were a plus for me from the GWS game.plugger66 wrote:

Am happy though for Siposs to play forward or back, or wing.
In a few years when he has strengthened up I have a feeling he will mainly be a forward.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Re: Siposs has to play forward
Stanley is pretty underrated with his kicking skills. Could just use Siposs as that utility roll. Doesn't need to be defined as Goddard's roll as such. More of a Johncock.

I was thinking the same thing. Gwilt has filled the role well in 2010.Cairnsman wrote: Gee I reckon Gwilt and Stanley would be contenders for having a booming kick.
Stanley has been doing some huge switch kicks so far this year. Good skills for a key back.

Re: Siposs has to play forward
oh right I forgot about Gwilt.
I worry about James to be honest. He wasn't in great form before his season ending injury and has been reasonably lacklustre since... I'm worried that the game may have gone past him. He really needs to play for an extended patch...
Don't know where he fits anymore.

Rested! Mickey Arthur picking the side now?skeptic wrote:we think he may have been rested
If he is dropped he needs to play at Sandy IMO!
Maybe this year?

Disagree about permanent forward... Defensive capability not up to the standard required
