Imagine a GWS V GC grand final !

The Afl would be giving tickets away . Even though it now an event , i'd be surprised if they got more than 75K there !
local footy finals will would have massive turnouts .

GCS have Swallow, O'Meara, Bennell, Lonergan and Jack Martin who is likely the best of the lot and won't play until next year....

That's not even mentioning their tall's...

I think as supporters we need to prepare for the worst. Regarding commentary. It's going to be bias. No matter what the result. If its a close game for example its all going to be praise for GWS.

West Coast vs Sydney got 97k, I don't see why this is much different. Port vs Brissie got 77k when a quarter of the ground was closed. I wouldn't worry about the crowd for a Grand Final, it's always 95k+ regardless.

It will probably be the greatest showcase of talented footballers in a GF, 44 top 10 draft picks...

I dub thee "the Beatles" grand final

It would be full because it's all bought up by corporates etc. The real problem lies in the fact that if those teams dominate to an extent that the traditional teams don't have a look in the tv ratings will plummet and the right deals will be hardly worth paying the lawyers to write up. No way i would bother watching either of the new franchises if we weren't playing them.

Between both teams you'd be lucky to conjure 50 000 supporters.... But the GF would get 90k... AFL members, MCC members, corporates etc....

Sydney.... 25 years of existence in Sydney, history from 120 years as Sth Melbourne
Brisbane likewise
WCE had 10 years as a one club state... Already 2 premierships and are a powerhouse
Port have the richest of histories...and are in a football mad state.

A GF between these two franchises (that's what I call them) would be severely lacking in interest and/or care factor.

It'll never be though... Neither team has a soul... Takes more than draft picks to earn one...

I suspect that he will be a significant TARGET on Saturday. I would also target his "Chair Throwing" mate too!!

Brissie won three flags in a row without any real "soul". They got a lot less of Fitzroy than the Swans did of South Melbourne - and South Melbourne were a better side anyway.

And how did West Coast "earn" their soul? Just by winning games and eventually flags? Who's to say GWS or GC won't do the same?

Meh. My guess is he was directed to make these comments by a higher up, probably Sheedy, because after 2 losses GWS will know we will be fired up and they will be trying anything to make us lose focus. Reminds me of a toy poodle yapping at a doberman

Hirdy said when we beat the Saints next week- then smirked and changed his story. Another on the hit list.

Sorry - "South Melbourne were a better side (than Fitzroy) anyway"???!!!

Fitzroy were a super side early and won 8 Flags. Fitzroy were fantastic late 70s and early 80s too. South had one dominant era when they won 1 Flag with a foreign legion of players in the thirties.

Agree with the rest though :)

Will be one of the top 10 players in the comp in a couple of years. Had a great junior career and will have a great senior career. Those Grand Finals i lost to his mob in juniors will forever suck.

Should learn to speak about reality rather than provide the opposition with incentive - clearly caught up with believing his own publicity.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Fair point, but I suppose I was just talking about at the time of relocation/merger. South had finished 9th, 6th, 10th, 8th, 5th (out of 12 teams) in the previous five years, basically they were a mid-table side. Fitzroy won three games total across the two years before the merger and in the years before finished last, last, second last, 11th of 15, 10th of 15, second last, third last, 6th, third last, 11th of 14. They'd been a very poor side for ten years - not as bad as the Saints circa 86 but still whipping boys.

Actually what he said was "focus on beating st Kilda." Then he caught himself and said "sorry I shouldn't say that. I mean focus on playing st Kilda"

The smirk was more of an apologetic smile than a smug one.
