Discussion - Saints v Bombers
Injuries: Hurley (wrist) Fletcher (groin) Newnes (concussion)
MRP: Ryder
Saints inclusions. Could see Hickey in to combat Ryder & Bellchambers. Apart from that, injuries have depleted the depth we had. If Hickey comes in, Simpkin could take Blakes spot...
It will be tough taking on who I believe at this stage of the season is the in form side, however there is no burden of expectation, we are nothing like the saints list that has tended to be the dons whipping boy.

Re: Discussion - Saints v Bombers
If Hickey plays then you are right Simpkin comes in for Blake and Lee misses out. Who is better up forward, Lee or Hickey?
Re: Discussion - Saints v Bombers
niggle, need to niggle. bombers on edge and missing their injections. Need to get into the head of goddard. Maybe get lenny to line him up first bounce. Take no prisioners. If they beat us they will hurt in the process.

Bring Kosi back to smack BJ hard. Be worth a few weeks for the effort!Old Mate wrote:i'd whack what's eating gilbert grape on himCairnsman wrote:Don't want to be negative but next week could be our first hiding for the season.

Pretty hard to beat them going on form and where both teams are at.noob wrote:how about we just win without focusing on one player.
Focus energy on the player and channel some of it on the game and hopefully it will be a contest for at least a half or three quarters if we're lucky.

Don't forget the dirty little Kommer...The MRP will have a look at him as well.. he looks like he was coached by a much younger Sheedy....SainterK wrote:Injuries: Hurley (wrist) Fletcher (groin) Newnes (concussion)

Why does Kosi come in for Maister? I don't get it. Maister competes at least so Kosi stays put.

The Bomberfilth hunt in packs and will pressure us into mistakes. It will be just like Geel vs Blues today but not as close.
Hope we at least have a decent crack but I fear a 12 goal belting.

Krommer has two incidents that will be looked at. Though he is a lesser light.SainterK wrote:Injuries: Hurley (wrist) Fletcher (groin) Newnes (concussion)

Fletcher is a big out as he normally does well on us, and his ability to marshal the Dons back line should not be under-estimated. His accurate kicking oftern starts off a lot of rebound too.
Ryder is the type of ruckman that Ben struggles against, and so if he is out we can just go with just Big Ben.
hurley is a big loss too.
But let's also not forget that we are down Schneider, Dempster an Gwilt.

Re: Discussion - Saints v Bombers
On form we can't possibly win and should really lose by six to ten goals. In practice I think we'll be competitive up to the start of the last quarter, maybe character and effort keeps us within a couple of goals before they run over us at the end.
That big picture aside, if they lose Ryder - who like J Riewoldt always seems to kill us - then we should at least have a chance. Removes some running power, but they still seem to have a sizable advantage in that department. We're approaching the point where we'll need to cut a small forward in exchange for midfield power, though there aren't many pushing up right now.

Would love dearly for us to burst the Bomber bubble. I can't see it being an impossibility. Perhaps they are due for a loss?

Re: Discussion - Saints v Bombers
Im very tempted to be optimistic here. The signs look in our favour. We had an easy confidence building win while Essendon had a tough fight back. Essendon will be traveling back from Perth, Big losses in terms of players who usually do well against us, All the pressure is on Greedard to prove he is better off there, all that media focus will be on their shoulders, no pressure on us as everyone will expect them to steamroll us.
I am cautiously confidant we can pull off what would be a pretty big upset

I'm not normally so blatantly negative on this site but if we win next week it will be and remain the upset if the season.
Re: Discussion - Saints v Bombers
Well if there was ever a more opportune time to face the Bombers, it would be this week.
With key injuries and likely suspensions, the drug fiasco going no where and there's only so many times the players can "win it for Hird" before the burden becomes too much.

Re: Discussion - Saints v Bombers
Would rather meet them in May, but coming back from an emotionally draining game in Perth they'll be ripe for us.
Just hope no more big news from Wilson and Dank this week to galvanize them.
I think this game will show our competitiveness - we will match them. We need a match like this to really kick start our season.

Re: Discussion - Saints v Bombers
They were flying last time we played them too @ at 10-3 & then…
St Kilda 21.7 (133) def. Essendon 8.14 (62)
No reason we can't beat them this week IMO.
Their outs and potentially more (Hurley, Fletcher) will give us a great chance.
The bombers play well against a Lyon game style, but we aren't playing "saints footy" anymore.
Think we need one of good onballers to run with Watson and hurt them the other way, Montagna maybe? As I don't think Jones can stop him, maybe he should go with Stanton.
We all know how much BJ falls apart with niggle and close checking, can we get Siposs to do a job like that?
Crameri is playing great footy, needs someone really strong on him… Fisher?
With Ryder out, the need for a second ruckmen is reduced… depending on if they play Hille I guess… Hickey should be an emergency at the very least. Hopefully we can make do with Stanley & Maister taking a few around the ground.

Re: Discussion - Saints v Bombers
Ryder out, Kommer out (tough mid-fielder), Fletcher "iffy" (groin), Hurley doubtful (wrist).
Bombers had a tough Perth match and have been on a "high' for three weeks now.
We play Etihad well and did not have a tough match against GWS - kicked it around a lot in the last quarter.
If we fancy ourselves, this could be the week, but we need to bring our Double AA game
