Roof to stay open for day games at Etihad
Just like Good Friday and bouncing the ball after a goal, Demetriou refuses to change his stance on certain things.
Then again, we have bugger all day games at Etihad this year.

He is a pig headed fool. Proven with the tanking debarcle. The sooner he's gone the better. I cant stand his arrogant, smug and pompus attitude. Apart from that I'm sure he's a nice bloke.saintspremiers wrote:Just like Good Friday and bouncing the ball after a goal, Demetriou refuses to change his stance on certain things.

Re: Roof to stay open for day games at Etihad
This is slightly off topic but that was very clever by the North coach to make an issue about the roof and have that little spit on the boundry with official knowing full well it would be on TV.
Destracted everyone from the small fact that his team were 41 points up and lost.

Agreed, it was extremely impulsive... Or tactical.Cairnsman wrote:This is slightly off topic but that was very clever by the North coach to make an issue about the roof and have that little spit on the boundry with official knowing full well it would be on TV.

I must be one of the few people who agree that the roof. I find with the roof shut the place feels like a large school gym with grass and not a football ground.

Re: Roof to stay open for day games at Etihad
If the roof stays open during day matches that the Saints are participating in.............. so many Saint supporters won't attend. We have read it on here many a time, some supporters(?????) won't go to sit out to be exposed to the elementsPakenhamSaint wrote:I must be one of the few people who agree that the roof. He didn't blame the loss on the roof.....
He created a diversion though.
Who'd he do his apprenticeship under?
Oh that's right, Micky Malthouse, deflection expert.

Re: Roof to stay open for day games at Etihad
It's hard to find anyone associated with the game (players, coaches, media, etc) that actually want the roof open.saintspremiers wrote:Just like Good Friday and bouncing the ball after a goal, Demetriou refuses to change his stance on certain things.

They always shut it at night.
If they don't during the day then you're blinded by the sun from both wings. One with direct sunlight and the other with the reflection.
Just shut the bloody thing.

Re: Roof to stay open for day games at Etihad
BACK ON TOPIC:
The players don't like the roof open because of the light/shade and they lose the ball in flight.
The broadcasters don't want the roof open because the contrast looks terrible on TV
The fans, especially those of who sit on the City side of the ground don't want the roof open because we/they are looking straight into the sun. Those on the other side of the ground are blinded by the suns reflection off city skyscrapers.
Andy D constantly tells us that its "The Peoples Game" and that the AFL are there to facilitate what the people want from the game, yet he refuses to alter HIS policy; GO FIGURE
Note to Andy D; James Hird and his mates configured the ground to run North-South instead of East-West making your comparison/arguement with the MCG completely irrelevent !!

I don't mind the roof open, I like a bit of sunshine if it is present

Re: Roof to stay open for day games at Etihad
Maybe I imagined it, but Im sure I remember the roof being open in the early years during night games...
If I'm correct, I also remember thinking it was a great atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed it...
It could also have been a really good nights sleep, not sure..

I really have to shake my head when I'm told the ground is alligned the wrong way.
If that is the case then so was Moorabbin, Western Oval, Waverley, Kardinia Park.
All these grounds, and Kardinia Park is still used are alligned North South, only the MCG and Princes Park we're east west.
The sun shines just as bright at the MCG.

The only time during a day game that the roof should be open and open only slightly is a really warm day to let heat from the crowd to escape.

I can remember when the dome was built people/clubs were complaining about how unfair it was for teams that played at the g on wet days and the effect it would have on %
AD does listen, his job is to ignore the irrelevent

You can't retrofit a roof on the G. Or don't you understand that?sunsaint wrote:so why arent you screaming about building a roof on the mcg?saintspremiers wrote: But the G doesn't have a roof.

So you support AD on this, and go against what most players and all the broadcasters want, which is the roof closed??

Re: Roof to stay open for day games at Etihad
One story that I'm surprised hasn't been recounted in all this is the following:
I went to the A-League grand final at the dome (forget which year but it was when Victory beat Adelaide 6-0). The game was going along as normal and then it started raining., at this point it became obvious that the roof was only HALF closed. It got heavy and the first half of this GRAND FINAL (!) was played with one end of the pitch/field wet and slippery, and the other half bone dry! At half time, they moved the roof (this WAS done with people in the stadium) and the rain evened out the wetness for the second half.
I don't mind seeing rain at the dome as per last weekend, but this situation (in a grand final no less) was truly farcical.

They like a bit of rain in the A league as they can slide further feigning injury.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
