Our Key Backs
A lot of s*** canning of our Key backs after tonight but let remember this between Jack, Mguanne and Vickery they took 9 marks. Not a barefoot considering the reaming the umpires gave our defenders. Couldn't blame them if they became a bit gun shy attacking a contest .

Re: Our Key Backs
Unfortunately Fisher played like he was lacking match practice tonight which he was.
But we had no other options. Simpkin is smaller and equally underdone,
Sam will be better for the hitout.

Re: Our Key Backs
I dont blame the backs at all. They did well under the circumstances. The ball bounces all to easy from the oppositions defence due to short kick delivery being so bad. This creates a huge imposition on the backline.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Re: Our Key Backs
Sam will be stronger...and is much more experienced....and is elite. Sam can play FB, Simpkin cannot yet hold down good big opponents, but in time may be able to.stinger wrote:Simpkin and fisher are the same height.... 191cm......but sam is two ks heavier....94ks against 92ks for tom....nothing in it really.....saintsRrising wrote:Unfortunately Fisher played like he was lacking match practice tonight which he was.

Re: Our Key Backs
Simpkin has a long neck and big head on a Farren Ray sized frame so on body style sam Fisher looks more of a high shouldered short neck type which allows him to play taller. I still think Simpkin could play as a utility type else where on the ground, he is an attacking player but may struggle to get a spot down back when all are fit.

Re: Our Key Backs
There is this bloke at West Coast who played in their magoos last week that would be a walk up start.
We are very, very thin for key backs.

I would imagine that we have a firm deal in place. Only thing that nay derail it is if he becomes a regular this year. however hopefully he wants to come home to Vic.

Surely the club isnt stupid enough to have a deal in place for a guy who isnt a regular at his club and has at least 21 games to go. Well I certainly hope not.

Is it really true that we were trying to secure a first rounder to get him?plugger66 wrote:

Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

if we are talking mitch brown. then we were willing to part with:SaintPav wrote:Is it really true that we were trying to secure a first rounder to get him?plugger66 wrote:

cripps + pick 25 + pick 26 for one mitch brown.
how we were going to do this. well there were two trains of thought:
1) send picks 25 + pick 26 to geelong in return for a higher round 1 pick, that would be sent to wce with cripps to get brown,
2) send picks 25 + pick 26 to essendon for one (i forget who) of their KPD and send him to wce with cripps to get brown.
either case we were getting severly bent over. thank god we didnt do it.

Re: Our Key Backs
Should start Stanley on biggest forward for a few weeks to at least gauge the potential of this idea. Was disappointed that we changed that idea as soon as Hickey wasn't available, prefer Blake played as second ruck decoy forward than mess with something we have trained for all off season.
When he did go back it was loose, a bloke of his size must be stopping someone IMO!

Maybe this year?
