Just need to come to grips with where we're at
It's hard I know
We're not top 4
We're not top 8
We could be bottom 4 but probably not
It's going to be a tough year...there's a bit of promise but as most have said we're likely to get worse before we get better. Tough but life was never meant to be easy. All we can hope for is the club is smart and for once we have a bit of luck. 4-5 years min

Reality sucks.
At least some of the kids look decent. But none of them are walk up stunners.

0-2 is where we are at. Can anyone remember the last time we started 0-2 to a season?

scary thing is the wilderness at the moment with Gold Coast and GWS mopping up talent is a long road back with no guarantee.
our kids are good honest players at best.

This. Going to be very difficult to make the calls on fringe senior players when guys like Schneider and Jones have started the season very well.bigred wrote:Reality sucks.

I think Blake has to go, hardly an upgrade on Simpkin

I dont think many on this board have the Sainters on the top 8 let alone top 4 this year but we had a chance to go 2-0 with a soft draw. Richmond and GC are sh1thouse but unfortunately proven to be better than us.

Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
Very true, I'm not to upset about it all, we have had a good run. Need to
Get some kids games while we have the old champs running around to help them thought it. Really looking forward to adding talent and draft picks at the end of year with all the extra cap space we shall have

Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
Really hard to swallow. Especially when Geelong seem to be in the running again.
It's sad, demoralising and disappointing.
This will be a year that tests out patience and resolve. There will be few rewards.
If we're not a chance to win the flag, I just wish we would work for the next flag.

Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
This is going to be a funny year. Not many gimme games anymore. I think it will find out plenty and the log jam could be from about 4 to 16 decided on a few games. GCS and GWS will trip up plenty at home, Tiges are a middle of the road team that could gel and have confidence now but could go either way.

I think we were not to far off the tigers
Can't get over the fact GC beat us
We should/could have been in a better spot

Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
Really Middo regardless of the players we had out there toinight if Ross LYON was preparing and coaching we would have won that game by 5 goals. Yes our list is getting older and obviously this will the last year for a number of the team but tonight was lost before the ball was bounced with starting Blake on Riewoldt - disgraceful decision!Middo wrote:Really ...?? The more games we loose the better our picks will be its ad simple as that.
Also that WinnersOnly idiot needs to pull his head in. Sack the coach?! That's so 1980s

Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
6 day break & travelling in from the tropics vs the Tiges off 9 day break and full of beans after beating the Blues in ROund 1. I thought we'd go down by 10 goals. Yet lost by less than 3, with 5 goals to Tiges from free kicks.BigMart wrote:I think we were not to far off the tigers

I was quite encouraged by the performance tonight. But yeah, the GC result hurts. It is probably going to keep on haunting us for the rest of the year.

I would agree with this in 100% if we didn't show we can do it well. that's why i can't atm. we played some great footy at times last year and this preseason.MC Gusto wrote:It's hard I know

Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
Not sure the ages of two mids has anything to do with how good we are now?
Maybe over the next three years or so...yes
If you said Cotchin is better than any of our mids... You'd be right and that makes more sense IMO.
Richmond are fairly good.... Not as good as I thought on tonight...
Some of our champs are really just playing on memory and we will be competitive until realisation sets in and then we go backwards hard

Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
From 2004 to 2010 we were a contender and gave it a good shake. It's gone. We've got to accept that it will take a while to build towards our next tilt. That's one of the reasons Pelchen was brought in. But it's going to take more than a couple of weeks. You can't build a list in a year or even two.
Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.
Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
Don't even agree with this bs thread.
We matched Richmond, you just can't win when richmond get 6 free's in their forward 50 to yours 0.
Was similar to the Hawthorn/Geelong game, Hawks were getting all the bs free's, but the tide changed middle of the 3rd. I thought it might turn for us, unfortunately, the umpire ripped us a new asshole with that free to Jack which was the most utter s*** decision I've seen in a long time, especially when its the last quarter, and its close.

Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
This is where we are at, our last three games have been losses to Gold Coast, GWS and Richmond. And we've played terribly in each game.
Seems a long time since that promising young outfit beat Sydney at Etihad.

Retire Blake very soon.
Give some of our players farewell games through the season.
There should be Only TWO stages where a club is at, as mentioned in the quoted post.
We seem to be in neither.

Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
Agree we could have easily won tonight. Fact is it doesn't matter unless we make Top 4 anyway. Tigers might make the 8 but who cares. (They won't win the GF at least not this year)lefty wrote:Don't even agree with this bs thread.

We should forget finals and rebuild (and not tank for draft picks like the Dees). Forget Geelong we don't have male offspring sperm.
However maybe in 20 years with some scientific help ?
Whatever it takes
I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.
Re: Just need to come to grips with where we're at
Personally I was expecting a much bigger loss. What I saw was our champs a notch down from their peak, and overall a big effort from the boys. More of a concern is the lack of out and out guns coming through. Clearly we need to develop some over the nest 3-4 years.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
