I reckon it is the only spot we can lose a player especially is Dempster and Fisher are back. We have pleanty of backs.

I dont think Fisher will play but we then have Simpkin so i still say we can miss Gwilt mor than a good forward or mid not that they are the choices.

Fisher was named. Is there still doubt on whether he'll play?plugger66 wrote:SainterK wrote:If....plugger66 wrote:I reckon it is the only spot we can lose a player especially is Dempster and Fisher are back. We have pleanty of backs.

We can cover him easily. Blake, Simpkin, Dempster, Roberton, Fisher and Siposs can all play a similar role. I haven't rated his post-reco form at all and don't think we'll miss him.

Re: Gwilt out for 3-5
After a not-so-good year in '12, following his knee reco., I was hoping that he would slot back in nicely this year.
It sounds like a "clean-up" op. to me, but 3 - 5 weeks will slow him down a lot.

Yep he had a scope... Nothing too major, but a setback nonetheless...Junction Oval wrote:After a not-so-good year in '12, following his knee reco., I was hoping that he would slot back in nicely this year.

Agreed. Mid-sized defenders we have plenty of.
Gwilt was not that good last year. Hopefully he will get better.
I would much rather get Joey or Schneider back than keep Gwilt.
Fisher is another matter as he is so versatile AND can play as a true key defender.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....

big loss but doesnt matter in the 'big picture'
going to be a long year though not sure we are a win at all costs team in 2013

Re: Gwilt out for 3-5
I wonder about Gwilt... was superb in 2010 but ppl forget that he was WAY down in 2011 pre-injury... was really being exposed as a defender
for mine hasn't come close to being the player he was to this point... though obviously the injury is one that takes more than a year to recover from
I worry that he may be a player that we persist with hoping he will get back to what he was, and he never does.
Speedy recovery James, alleviate my fears

Re: Gwilt out for 3-5
Gwilt is no full back. He's a back flanker.
Lack of decent recruiting over the years is now killing us

Re: Gwilt out for 3-5
Gwilt appeared to be running much better in the preseason games this year and back in form.
He's a lovely kick also.
I think he's a loss.

Re: Gwilt out for 3-5
Gwilt had been asked to do far too much the last 24 months, leading to his output being down..
He is not a key defender, or a big bodied back.. He is a 4th backman, who looks to get free and hurt his man the other way, as well as be the guy that helps out on the bigger gun opposition forwards..
He is very important to us, but needs that extra big body or 3 down back to ease his load..
Im a huge fan.. Thought his start to this year has been very promising, despite not having that support that really frees him up..

Re: Gwilt out for 3-5
Agree with both the previous posters especially concerning his kicking which has been important to us. He's tough and level-headed as well. Doubtless Siposs will be called on to play the same role, let's hope that works out.
