Forgot Tom
Don't like his chances if Sean and Sam are fit

Milera was our top scorer and everyone wants him dropped??
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

He needs to bulk up a bit and make those tackles stick. Also to be more physical at the ball.PJ wrote:Milera was our top scorer and everyone wants him dropped??
Was a poor game by Saad, though, so I guess he could be a possible out. Newnes?
I dunno, but if fit, Dempster, Fisher and Joey will come in.

Re: Saints v Tigers - Preview / Discussion
Really have to know who is available before picking the outs, as there is such a spread of potential ins with such a wide range positions and capabilities.
Fisher = Full Back
Dempster = Fishers old role of running HB
Simpkin = Third tall back
Schneider = Forward/mid rotation
Joey = mid (and tagger)
Joey is the only one that we know is a certain in.
The above are all likely first 22 players when fit and in form.
Beyond them there are a several new players who will get games like Wright. Whether any would this week will be very much affected by how many of the above 5 being available.
Would be surprised to have 5 changes, but then again all 5 may not be available.
Watters will be desperate to make amends for our lamentable first game effort and Tigers will go into the game chock full of confidence.
One could envisage Schneider being eased back by playing the Sub, though we desperately need his smart ball use for all 4 quarters.

Re: Saints v Tigers - Preview / Discussion
Sports science would suggest that our players are going to be battling fatigue in the lead up to this game. Remember, Richmond will have come off an extra two days of rest and didn't have to play in that energy sapping Gold Coast humidity. A huge advantage their way.
It would take an incredible effort for us to rebound and overcome the Tigers. Not likely, but stranger things have happened in football.

Re: Saints v Tigers - Preview / Discussion
I think Simpkin will get in, if they thought he was fit enough to be selected for Saturday, he's bound to get a game, plus I think we forgot how good he was last year.
One possible reason for Simpkins late withdrawal may have been the conditions, warm and humid, which they may correctly thought was too much for him with his limited conditioning. Wont be warm and humid Friday night.
My fear is that we will fatique badly in the second half due to last weeks conditions, especially the midfield, expect it will be a light training week for those who played.
No confidence going into this week, would need a massive turn around in form.

In theory you're correct, but it wasn't a hard physical crunching type game, just a lot of running and cramping.Sainternist wrote:Sports science would suggest that our players are going to be battling fatigue in the lead up to this game. If the players have a good pre season fitness base, they should recover pretty quickly and not have any significant injuries from the game.

Why has Joey all of a sudden become the new 'tagger'
One of the more damaging offensive running mids in the side? And a natural ball winner.
This is a guy who has once had 38 possessions and kicked 5 in the same games.... And is a dual AA midfielder?!
He should just be accountable like all mids.... But he is a natural ball winner

Re: Saints v Tigers - Preview / Discussion
Have you missed TDL in your possible outs list K, or do you think he wont get dropped? If Terry goes before TDL I will be extremely disapointed. Can't believe so many are after Terry's head after this game. I actually don't think he shirked that tackle. I think he thinks too far ahead at times and was genuinly sidestepped. Even though the GC player hardly moved. Yes he has some faults but he is a classy player who is highly skilled. We don't have them coming out our ears.SainterK wrote:Hopefully Saints are up because they have to redeem themselves and Tigers are down as they put so much into beating the Blues.

Ins from Joey Fisher Dempster Schneider Wright Kosi
Outs from Jones Terry Roberton Ray Hickey Blake
Joey v Cotchin
Dal will get Jackson?
Geary v Edwards
Stanley v Vickery
Ellis v Milne
Rance v Beau
Out:
Blake
TDL
Ray
Hickey
Newnes
In:
Schneider
Joey
Kosi
Fisher
Dempster
If Fisher and or Dempster don't get up, and I assume at the minimum one of them wont, Blakey gets a reprieve first then Newnes. Max changes 5 - Min changes 3.
I also think if Wright plays a couple of good games in the first few weeks at Sandy that he will get a run pretty early in the season.

I also can't understand why so many want Milera out. He was one of our best!
3.2 is a very good return for what is often described as the toughest position on the ground.
I would expect both Saad and Milera to have good games and bad games, as Milney has throughout his career.
They are both worth sticking with IMO.

No change. I think Watters will give this lineup a chance to redeem itself, as the whole team was flat against GC

Milera...16 games.
We are in rebuild mode and so we need to get our developing players up to 50 games and not expect perfection from those still learning the game at AFL level.
However wit Joey and possibly Schneider back in there is not room for both Milera and TDL. I would go with Milera.

Re: Saints v Tigers - Preview / Discussion
I don't think Kosi gets back in just because we were poor last week, if we replaced hickey with a tall, we should start getting games into Lee...
I think Newnes needs persevering with too, development comes first now, even at the cost of a couple more wins this year.
If fisher & Dempster come back, I would be playing Rhys fwd & 2nd ruck. Hickey isn't good enough as a forward, YET.
TDL is just not in the best 25 yet, Blake did a good job filling in while 3 first choice defenders were missing.
I think CJ was filling in for Montagna, and while he did okay I would rather drop him than Newnes.

Re: Saints v Tigers - Preview / Discussion
I like Newnes and have high hopes for him, but he was physically pathetic v GC, who aren't a big strong side, and still looks 12 months away.. Got brushed aside and rag dolled every time he went near it.. He is a brave kid and puts himself in tough positions, but his body can't cope with the inside intensity yet..
In saying that, I'd like Joey in for CJ, so maybe Schnides for Newnes.. But I also want TDL out of the side immediately.. And Saad seems a mile off it..
Got no idea to be honest..
Simpkin in.
