C L E A R A N C E S
Has been a disgrace for a few seasons now - we are in massive trouble out of the centre and were beaten when it mattered again tonight
You can not give sides multiple run ons from the centre and expect to keep any momentum.
Dal just gets shut out too easily and Hayes can't do it alone. Our midfield is lame and Armo and Jones (both ok tonight) are good , honest B graders
Midfield is in trouble

Joey in, jones out
Don't like the two ruckman, been big on that all preseason.
Nothing wrong with Daves game, dal tagged and barely sighted...whole that stinks, joey being absent just made it stink all the more

I don't think any combination of Hayes, Steven, Armo, Dal and Joey will ever be thrashed in the clearances. Which is why it is so disturbing to see the likes of Gilbert, Jones, Ray and Newnes in the centre square so often.

Face fact for gods sake
We are STILL too reliant on aging MIDs
We have no star power coming through there
Time after time tonight the ball was bounced and simply went there way - to often , to easily
Massive problem as we fall away for quality terribly

Why did we play Gilbert on Ablett, instead of Ray.
Gilbert isn't a midfielder. Tonight was a s*** effort. Got killed in the clearances.
Our forward line is s*** without Kosi, because as good as Wilkes is, he can't play a 2nd tall. He doesn't take big overhead marks.
Why do we always just boot the ball high and have our forwards stand under it and get the ball punched away. Where's the friggen leads.
TDL was shithouse as well.

Re: C L E A R A N C E S
CLEARANCES are crucial.
The only players we have that should ever be in at centre bounces besides a ruckman are (in order)
STEVEN
ARMITAGE
HAYES
JONES
MONTAGNA
The rest haven't got a clue.
These 5 should rotate AND as for match ups ... match up AFTER the clearance ...

Re: C L E A R A N C E S
Fiction. We only lost the centre clearances six times last year. We haven't been as good around the ground, but we've still been above par in overall clearances.noob wrote:I'm pretty sure we've been flogged in the clearances the last few years.
Yeah nah pleasing positive
Re: C L E A R A N C E S
Our forward attacks always start from half back coz we are always getting smacked in clearances.
Tonight didnt help as we were missing 3/4 of our backline.
Richmond next week will be painful - we wont get near it in the middle and will be defending most of the time again.
8 goal loss i think next week

To me we're playing too many non-mids through the midfield.
Milne and Saad very poor tonight. Milera marginally better.
Ray and Gilbert... Roberton...
Drop two of that six and play a couple more young mids for experience. We shall see soon enough... Tigers, GWS, Bombers, pies, Blues, Crows... we could easily be 1-6...

Re: C L E A R A N C E S
Totally agree Teflon, we are a team that historically relied on the critical 5 other than during a couple of years under Grant and 3 years under Ross. Every other coach, including Gabby, has expereinced the dilemma of poor performance when 2 or more of the top five were beateb or tagged out. I reckon our win/loss ratio would look like 20/1 on these occasions.Teflon wrote:Face fact for gods sake

We seem to have never had development and depth going at the same time.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Re: C L E A R A N C E S
Im yet to see Ray or Gilbert win a clearance.
Jones in the last qtr was sadly the only mid that looked like he might win a clearance....before kicking it straight up in the air.
The sad thing is as others have said..........cause we basically lose the clearances we start from a position of defending - we have to work doubly hard to get our goals. Just cant do that.
Tigers have a good midfield - Tuck wins plenty in there not to mention Cotchin/Martin.....Deledio...

Shame, imagine had we managed to support the top line mids we have had with some half decent players?

I reckon SW had a bad night in the coaches box. Some very questionable midfield moves, including Milera in the center square bounce!?
