Re: Sandy today
I'd suggest Saunders-
saints socks and longish hair
the only others with excessive hair were Shenton and Simpkin who are over the top.

Re: Sandy today
Pretty good summary...BigMart wrote:Thought Simpkin was average, clumsy and sloppy by foot... Easy day for a defender, wet and windy... No fwd could dominate
Kosi was excellent, basically was captain coach of the fwd line and worked hard on the ball after shep went down. Slow, but contested well.
Schnieder was so far above VFL level it was ridiculous.
Seb, Ledger were solid inside mids.... Conditions suited....
Shenton played a really solid game, Lever was pretty good, as was Staley...
Minchington was an effective small crumber, as was Curran who may have kicked a couple....
Webster was very impressive as he took the game on and sliced port up off HB a few times....
Saunders wins the footy, but was sloppy with the ball... But he showed something...
White... Interesting
Is very quick, and can jump, has good hands and looks likely.... Also he is a bit lazy, down on work rate and not hard enough.... Yet. He has areas to improve..... But has some excellent attributes.
Would have considered Dunnell to be about the best saints player, hard to tell... So many rotations, and I don't think the coaches or players were fully aware of what was going on at all times....
Cockie and Marigliani were excellent and #54 and #24 .... Conditions were perfect for inside mids
Game Plan was very poor
I thought Simpkin did particularly well on Galea. He's played on him before and beaten him so I was pretty happy when he lined up on him. Galea is as good a contested mark as anyone I've seen but Simpkin seems to have his measure.
Agree on Spencer White...Simon McPhee singled him out at 1/4 time for his efforts...but later in the game there were a couple of times when he just didn't chase after losing the ball...and McPhee let him know it from up the cherry picker where he was watching the game from
Minchington was wrapt just to be back playing...him and Lever were off in the last 1/4...Lever appears to have bulked up a bit
Schneider was outstanding...I'll enjoy his time at Sandy as I doubt he'll be playing many games for us this year. some of the things he does are just sublime
I thought Kosi was good today...kicked a couple of goals...was very vocal at the breaks
Saunders was a late inclusion and showed a bit...good to see him listening to Marcus Marigliani during their walk around the boundary line after being rotated...he's very keen to learn
Shenton was a big suprise...after last year he could have easily been delisted..but the back line seems to be his best area to play in...he was the first Saints player to arrive yesterday...had a bit of a chat to him...last year he was painfully shy, but he was very talkative yesterday
Tom Curren was lively throughout the game as were Tom Ledger and Seb Ross
Jimmy Webster had a very good game..he's quick and has good disposal...he only played a couple of senior games at Sandy last year but if he continues with that sort of form then he'll be playing seniors every week.
Daniel Markworth was at the game continuing his rehab...
All in all a pleasant game at Seaford...conditions were varied from bright sunshine to belting rain...the surface was as you would expect an AFL training facility to be...excellent
This season offers a fair bit of promise...I hope...the lineup yesterday would beat most VFL teams...obviously there will be a lot of changes throughout the year but I'm cautiously optimistic about 2013

Shenton is a good back man- it's funny how a shift of ends can reinvent ordinary players. Beau Wilkes and Tom Lee were the other way around but both blossomed away from were they started. I like Saunders- he reminds me a little of Joel Selwood hopefully he gets a really good year of development at Sandy.
Re: Sandy today
Where's was snidders playing? I think he would be great coming of the half back line this year, such a smart player, now with all theses other small forwards coming along, might b time

He isnt on the outer. he hurt his leg at training about a month a go. First game back.

I agree. I like his hardness.
Re: Sandy today
Exactly what position??
Can't see Simpkin being able to consistently hold power fwds. Gwilt is better, so would get a third fwd and Sam Fisher is elite...

I like him. Sorry about that and think he would be better on power forwards than Gwilt. If Stanley isnt available I would go with him at FB when fit.
Re: Sandy today
Then where for Simpkin?? If Stanley is available...
BTW
Blake would be my option on the big guys... ATM

Seems likely, particularly with the Saints socks on.
Re: Sandy today
Anyone else concerned that Spencer Whites deformed thumb might have an affect on his marking ability?
