Steven just freaks out IMO, more composure that he needs to learn.

I reckon Ledger's disposal is the reason he doesnt get games. I dont think he is bad kick or handball but he panics or tries to do far to much. It is big season for him as he has a lot of deficiencies IMO.
It's not because he can't kick though, that was more my point..

It's not that he can't kick he kicks 50 on both feet.. His confidence levels are pretty low at senior level which he'll need to get over because of all the players who were drafted over the last 3 years that had some promise he's the one that if anything has gone backwards and its not because he can't kick..

He finished very high in the seconds B&F and played 6 games under a cloud of a side strain.... Ledger

He has developed OK..... Not dissimilar to Jack at the same stage.

He's tough and wins the ball.... Big tick

He lacks composure and coughs it up

Need a better fitness base, not sure he is a favourite amongst playing group.... Just. Hunch

I think he has a future

He's a bit smart for them, isn't he? They prefer deadshit good blokes like Gilbo.

Agree on everything bar the playing group. Think he's just a developing player who hasn't quite got there yet.

Agreed on disposal skills!

I think given how our list is starting to have some depth it is time to put a line through PLAYERS who cant consistently hit a target. AFL is becoming more and more a game of possession (keepings off) and having the ball in the hands of players who cant kick is footballing suicide!

JONES gone in my view replace with someone who has skills...
GILBERT loses his position also...
Blake just a survivor...

Need to improve -
Ledger needs to keep his thinking simple - first options always.
Geary has some trouble hitting targets
Saad very one sided and a below average handballer...

SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!

A bit unfair. Granted Gilbo isn't the sharpest in the shed, but he's a lovely guy and very easy to be friends with.. Ledger may have issues with over confidence, something Gilb certainly is not, and is much more likeable when humble..

Isn't that the precise definition of deadshit good bloke?

gut feeling is that Ledger is realising there is a lot more to being an AFL footballer than first thought. you can have academic smarts but then there is footy smarts.

bloody hell it is raining like a mother up here in Northern Rivers!!

Yeah, I like it as a distinctly Australian insult. Nope, I've met his girlfriend but never him - but if we're all restricting our opinions to those we've met then the forum will go pretty quiet. There's a reason they don't get him to ever do any media...

Whether someone is a good bloke or a smarta*se is irrelevant, don't get the argument at all.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Ross took the pace out of the game, even the most ordinary of kicks survived because they didn't have to kick so much on the run?

I actually think it is more that Ross developed a gameplan, and extremely high workrate, to make the most of our strengths and overcome most of our weaknesses, given the list that he had available and the players that were available to be recruited. Poor kicking was a big weakness, but the high pressure that we exerted meant that our opposition's kicking became even poorer.

If the opposition cannot get the ball, and when they do they are being hammered....it does not really matter that they are better kicks. unfortunately for us though opposition tactics moved on and overcame the press.

SainterK wrote:I think it's a direct result of the new gameplan. ...maybe that's a sign of things to come?
Most definitely, and there is no maybe about it.

Make no mistake, Pelchen was brought in to restructure our team and improved kicking skills is extremely high on his agenda.
Pelchen is building a team that has much better footskills on average, and a team that is much quicker and more athletic.

It's the off season, without pointless arguments we'd have to shut the place down.

A crap kick at the start of an AFL career is most likely to be crap at the end of an AFL career....

Why is that...?

Will we pick up a player in the SSP window :?:
