Should tonights game be postponed?
37 degrees in Adelaide today, ridiculous conditions for football.
Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Re: Should tonights game be postponed?
It could get ridiculous next week if those conditions hold up and interchange is capped...
You can listen to Bristle tell you Carlton are still a massive chance at 28 points down with two minutes to go, you can listen to him tell you all about Lorne, or you can watch a monkey on a pushbike...I know which I prefer...

Lucky it's not the bombers. Their temperamental transportation methods would have no chance of making it. After last years debacle they would have turned back when the sky was a little warm.
Re: Should tonights game be postponed?
I heard that they can shorten each half from 20 minutes to 17.5 minutes. I reckon they will go with that

Re: Should tonights game be postponed?
At least they're not playing at the hottest time of the day. Absolutely ridiculous. Why not start at 7.30.

Doesn't the real footballer play from April to September? Mid-Feb is pretty early.Cairnsman wrote:It's only heat. What happened to the real footballer.

Re: Should tonights game be postponed?
Just wonder what the legal ramifications would be for the AFL if something serious happened to one of the players as a result of playing in this heat.
Let's not forget that the temperature at ground level inside the stadium will be hotter than outside. One sensible thing they could do is run the sprinklers while the players are not on the ground.
At the Australian Open play on the outside courts would be suspended and the roofs would be closed at Hisense and Rod Laver Arena for the players safety.
All foxtel would have to do is run a replay of another game to fill in the delay.

Re: Should tonights game be postponed?
The AFL have a "HEAT POLICY" that allows for longer breaks and I think more interchange players. I think & hope that our guys will be OK !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
Re: Should tonights game be postponed?
Imagine if the workforce stopped every time the temperature was high.
Many people work very hard five days +, 48 weeks of the year in all weather conditions.
Most receive only a fraction of what the average footballer earns,
and has to do it for many years longer than the longest football career.
What about the 55 year old motor mechanic?
What about the 38 year old plumber?
What about the many others?
Most footballers are young and healthy,
and can cope better than the average hard worker who may start at 8am and finish at 5pm.
Why should the footballer be exempt?

Re: Should tonights game be postponed?
A lot of jobs stop working when the temperature is high but in this case I think they will be able manage. Matter of fact some fitness guys now think training in heat is as good as high altitude.Majority wrote:Imagine if the workforce stopped every time the temperature was high.

Re: Should tonights game be postponed?
And our team plays the first two games. Nicely rigged for a "showdown" as the last game. I reckon our boys will be a little tired in the second game. I'd be willing to bet our players have never played in such heat, perhaps no players have. If 37 degrees is not hot enough to call it off, then there seems little point in a heat policy.

My Dad used to work in a workforce who had a union man who's sole job was to monitor the temperature and send everyone home if it got too hot or cold...Majority wrote:Imagine if the workforce stopped every time the temperature was high.

Re: Should tonights game be postponed?
Exactly what Gerard Healy said, ridiculous really. However, they don't call off the game, they reduce the amount of time played on the field and can introduce more players to the bench.perfectionist wrote:And our team plays the first two games.
