Blackest day in Australian sport
This report by the Australian Crime Commission goes beyond Essendon and deserves a separate thread IMO.
Although they do not name sports, codes nor players, what they said leaves essentially NO DOUBT that performance enhancing drugs have infiltrated the AFL at a significant level, i.e. more than an isolated case or 2.
the AFL will now start taking all this much more seriously. They previously had their head in the sand, thinking it was about as likely in the AFL as.... well.. tanking
I also have a feeling though that they will not rigourously try to uncover past deeds, but deal with the future...
They would not really want to deal with the situation of a past premiership player being outed... what would they do? Declare runner up the premier? recall premiership medallions?
That is a hiding to nothing.

They would most likely strip the winner of the Premiership. It is not reawarded, there is simply no winner for that year, as happened to Melbourne Storm.
I still do not really understand why Essendon was not stripped of 1993.

Re: Blackest day in Australian sport
Yesterday the worst case scenario was Essendon ceasing to exist.
Today the worst case scenario is no more AFL, NRL, ARU or A-League.
Holy peptides Batman, this is serious!

Re: Blackest day in Australian sport
I'm not sure that yesterday was the Blackest Day in Australian Sport but I do suspect that there are going to be some very dark days for some in sport and on the edge of sport in the not too distant future, with the two most frightening sounds being KNOCK KNOCK !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Agreed. It's time for Dimwit to get his head out of his arse otherwise the commission should sack himSainterK wrote:Depends how you look at it...

Nothing specific has even been said?!
At the moment just a bunch of ifs...... A reporters wet dream really...
A black day is coming because I reckon the industry is completely dirty.... But at this point, just a lot of hypotheticals....

Re: Blackest day in Australian sport
And if Essendon happen to not exist anymore it would probably take us 3 centuries to get passed their premiership tally.

The Victory looked like they were on LSD last night. If their keeper hadn't tripped over in the line of the ball a few times they would have been slaughtered.
