You realise this doesn't make any sense, right? Why should St Kilda be compensated for Essendon having some issues?
In hindsight from my initial post, you are probably right.
I guess was I was trying to say was that during the time Essendon may have been liasing with Goddard about a possible move as a free agent to the bombers, behind the scenes allegedly Essendon players were using banned supplements at around the same time. The rumors of something happening at an AFL club around drugs were around in September, early October. Goddard left as a free agent in early October, if he had have known he might not have left.
The saints as a club would have had time to prepare with a counter offer, downstream affects of preparing in general for the draft, etc. This takes time and effort and the club may not have even needed to do any of that. I understand however that Goddard may have gone to another club, but from memory it was only Freo and some lower placed teams in melbourne that were chasing him heavily. I thought he went to Essendon as they were a club on the rise (or something).
Anyways, the would have been some affect to ST.KFC, but the biggest loser i suppose is Goddard out of all of this, and also tarnishing the reputation of the AFL, and free agency as Goddard was the first confirmed free agent move from memory. The Goddard's move was to a club that are being investigated for the use of illegal drugs.
