And yes I would have him back in a heart beat - he is a star player who can lift the whole side. Remember the first grand final 2010 anyone? Or the 2009 one for that matter when he played the game out with a broken collar bone?

Im not sure we know one way or another what will happen. It is up ASADA to ban players if found guilty.

pluggsys right

just as much chance as them losing a lot of players thru a ban as much as them losing none imo

thye could be playing a ressie side and a few draft picks

if the rumor ends up true that only around half a dozen players werent on this 'special training programme'

this is serious shite

Didn't he say that he left:

* as he had a better change of playing finals? Bendigo Bombers may be a chance. With potentially no seniors he may be in the VFL for a year...
* to play midfield = he can pick and choose any position he wants now.....

srs?

half a dozen players on their list would mean they couldn't field a team. if bans were applied by the anti-doping agency to all the players who used the substance then the afl would be forced to deregister the whole club for the period the players were banned for. not sure what that would mean for the innocent players and new recruits.

If that did happen they would have a special draft just for them. The side wouldnt be competitive but at least we get to see a game. I fail to see the thrill of a bye when we play Essendon. I hope they did nothing wrong.

not sure it would pan out that way. wada would issue their penalties and then the afl may apply their own to the club such as de registration. if the majority of the depart. is involved then i see that the likely scenario. if it was an isolated issue with a member or two of the fitness staff and players then your scenario likely plays out. what i question tho is surely dank/weapon (whoever else) sort approval from the footy depart/coach prior to this 'programme.' there has to be someone high up that signed off on it. the coach? how much responsibility was bomber given? still plenty of unanswered questions. personally if found guilty i will happily take the bye. the dons must be punished accordingly if found guilty of cheating and using ped's.

The TV contract says 9 games. They have venue contracts as well. They will still play even if it is VFL players that fill the side. If every team gets bye it doesnt help anyone except sides that play them twice. Do we?

They'd probably get special permission to play guys from the bendigo bombers and play for no points....IF it came to that.

Matrix, I'm thinking it's HOW they were administered judging by what Hird said?

the fine imposed to the dons would ease some of the money the afl would owe from tv rights/venue contracts and it wouldn't be difficult to change a round or two to ensure all teams play the same amount of games. anyway, likely this investigation goes deep into the season and penalties are imposed after this season concludes.

Sorry dont the same games thing at all. And the fine would have to be 25 million by my calculations. Dont think it will be one tenth of that.

The game is already tainted... I venture to say what we all assume went on isnt far from the truth... Just try their best to spin it now so that the club isnt gone forever... The game is bigger than one club...

I just hope the AFL dont shirk it and that they bring Essendon to their knees... I have no sympathy, nor am I concerned about the ramifications of a VFL side playing AFL.. We've had 2 for the last couple of seasons anyhow, whats one more?!..

No Chance they would remove a side from the comp, nor will they ban any of their players.... it will be swept under the rug with fines and good behavior bonds etc....

The very most they will get pinged will maybe be loss of draft picks, but that wont happen either IMO

So ASADA which is connected to WADA will let the AFL do what they like but Lance Armstrong, one of the biggest names in the world, gets banned for life. It will not be up to the AFL. It is up to ASADA.

In theory Plugs, yes. But this is the AFL and it's hardly a world-wide sport. I agree with Paddy. After a lot of blah blah blah, in the end the comp will be largely unaffected this year.

Then if it is that minor why would ASADA suspend a VFL player for 18 months just a few months ago? ASADA arent going to give a stuff about the AFL. They will give the penalties that people deserve. The AFL will give the club penalties.

I hope you're right if there's factual evidence to support that action. Maybe I'm a bit behind the times with the powers of ASADA and their ilk. I'm just sceptical about anything being allowed to throw a spanner in the wheel of the AFL's commercialism, especially when it comes to a big drawing club like Essendon.

IF worst case senario happened for the bombers ,
Would BJ be able to sue the bombers for inadvertently ruining his career !

afterall if these suspicions surfaced last year , he wouldn't have gone anywhere near them .

The only say the AFL will have is the penalties to the club. In conjunction with ASADA they will give the penalties to the players who used the performance enhancing drugs if it did actually happen. We may be small world wide but we are the biggest sport in Australia by a long way and there is no way ASADA will care what the AFL want to happen unless it is similar to what ASADA think should happen.

I honestly hope no player had any performance enhancing drug and it blows over but there is obviously doubt.

You realise this doesn't make any sense, right? Why should St Kilda be compensated for Essendon having some issues?
In hindsight from my initial post, you are probably right.

I guess was I was trying to say was that during the time Essendon may have been liasing with Goddard about a possible move as a free agent to the bombers, behind the scenes allegedly Essendon players were using banned supplements at around the same time. The rumors of something happening at an AFL club around drugs were around in September, early October. Goddard left as a free agent in early October, if he had have known he might not have left.

The saints as a club would have had time to prepare with a counter offer, downstream affects of preparing in general for the draft, etc. This takes time and effort and the club may not have even needed to do any of that. I understand however that Goddard may have gone to another club, but from memory it was only Freo and some lower placed teams in melbourne that were chasing him heavily. I thought he went to Essendon as they were a club on the rise (or something).

Anyways, the would have been some affect to ST.KFC, but the biggest loser i suppose is Goddard out of all of this, and also tarnishing the reputation of the AFL, and free agency as Goddard was the first confirmed free agent move from memory. The Goddard's move was to a club that are being investigated for the use of illegal drugs.

I agree, the AFL lacks the balls to actually crack down on that and other clubs.

I agree with that much. Maybe relocate them to New Zealand, that way we can stay in Melbourne - and then they won't be subject to ASADA!
