Raph Clarke plays on
Apologies if this has been mentioned. I have only just read it.
Looks like Raph will be playing for Geelong Football League club St Albans.
I think he'll really enjoy his footy there.

Delisted Saint Clarke to play with Supersaints

Raphael Clarke
THE lure of playing footy away from the Melbourne spotlight has led former St Kilda player Raphael Clarke to GFL club St Albans.
Clarke, delisted by the Saints at the end of last season, signed a one-year deal with the Supersaints yesterday and met his new teammates last night.
The 27-year-old was often maligned during his injury-plagued 85-game AFL career and said yesterday he would relish the chance to play without the relentless pressure.
"I just wanted to get out of Melbourne and play somewhere where there wasn't as much pressure," Clarke said.
"I want to play at a relaxed level but in a league that's still good enough to keep you honest.
"You've still got to come out and be fit here, you can't run around with a big belly and expect to get a kick.
"I haven't really spoken about roles for the season yet, but hopefully I get a run on-ball and across half back.
"St Albans' ground has a lot of room to run around, and I like a bit of space, like everyone does, so hopefully we have a good team and a successful year."
Clarke has been playing with St Mary's in the Northern Territory competition over the summer.
He will continue to play with St Mary's in the coming weeks, but will scale back his commitments to be fresh for the GFL season.
St Albans coach Clinton Proctor said Clarke's signing was proof the Supersaints' standing in the wider community was getting stronger.
"Obviously it's a big get for the club. It shows where the club's at and the type of respect we've got off the field to get a guy straight out of AFL," Proctor said.
"He's played nine years of AFL footy, so his experience speaks for itself. His role will be a playing role, but he'll be great for our young players, mentoring them and showing them the ropes."

Unless you are looking to make a return to AFL, suburban is where the money is.

He's actually been playing for St Marys in the Darwin League, I watched him last week against Palmerston.
He seems to be in pretty good nick, running around off a half back flank

It's a pity he's not playing for Sandy. Would be an excellent VFL player.

Re: Raph Clarke plays on
good luck to Raph .. i hope he enjoys his footy and has every success moving forward ... i was kinda hoping he would follow Peake to play at East Freo in the WAFL but oh well ... can anyone tell me if the supersaints are also wearing red white and black ? seems like a constant link with the saints for Raph - drafted from St Marys Saints to the St Kilda Saints to then sign with St Albans supersaints ...

Re: Raph Clarke plays on
Raph should get plenty of opportunities at St Albans, as long as he plays in the back line. Their forwards won't see much of the pill.

The club should seriously look at employing X, Raph and Gilbert as directors of an indigenous youth academy. Disgrace that with all this bulldust about international recruiting that no club has explored doing something like this - would be an awesome development.

Re: Raph Clarke plays on
Happy to hear this and not surprised. He takes his football seriously.
I was sorry to hear Raph got the chop as I rated him quite highly for ability and we may need an experienced, versatile and courageous player like him this season.
He played some good football for us including a couple of finals, most notably the 2009 preliminary.
Had it not been for his second half heroics, the Bulldogs, not us, would have played Geelong the following week.
He made a mistake early in the Grand Final, but ultimately it was an inability to convert by our forwards that cost us that game.
Yes he had the occasional brain fade, but who doesn't?
Others will disagree, but I doubt Raph's sacking has improved our list.

And gets run down from behind. Free to the opposition for incorrect disposal.

Who doesnt get run down from behind? The last time Raph was run down, shortly after Saad was run down by Firito in the goalsquare. Guess how much that got mentioned on Saintsational.

Raph copped too much flak on here when he did play for us. Perhaps we could let up now that he has gone.White Winmar wrote:Sorry Barry, it was meant to be a light-hearted dig.
