6 day breaks - poor Cats
Hi Sainters,
AFL website says Cats have it tough with 3 6-day breaks to start next year.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx
How many in a row did we have? Don't recall any official acknowledgement that it was tough for us!
I'm sure it had an adverse effect on our up-and-down performances in 2012. Did it cost us a place in the 8?
Interesting to see how the Cats handle it?
Go Saints!!
GEELONG faces a taxing start to the 2013 premiership season, with the Cats scheduled to start their campaign with three six-day breaks.
Chris Scott's men play Hawthorn (MCG) on a Monday in round one, North Melbourne (Etihad Stadium) on a Sunday in round two, Carlton (Etihad Stadium) on a Saturday in round three, then travel to Sydney for a Friday night clash with the Swans at the SCG in round four.
"I'm expecting our boys to be pretty tired by the second and third six-day break," Geelong chief executive Brian Cook told AFL.com.au.
"So that's a really tough start."
The Cats will also play six games interstate next season.
"We play as many as anyone else does, of the Victorian clubs," Cook explained.

Its a joke any club has a draw like this ours included. Love to see the AFL try this on Collingwood.

Re: 6 day breaks - poor Cats
We had NINE 6 day breaks in 2012 and 2010 - the highest in the comp.
Not as bad as 2006 when we had the all time high of ELEVEN

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Think it proves 6 day breaks may be the most overated thing in the AFL. Give me GC, Melb, PA and GWS twice and 21 6 day breaks anytime.

I think it bears examination of teams records, especially in terms of consecutive 6 day breaks.plugger66 wrote:Enrico_Misso wrote:We had NINE 6 day breaks in 2012 and 2010 - the highest in the comp.

Also compare our record in 2006 with 2005, 2010 with 2009, 2012 with 2011.
It also is worth looking at the effect when a 6 day break is combined with an interstate trip.
I wouldn't dismiss the effect at all.
