Re: Lenny
Don't exaggerate. That was not what was said. A caller rang for clarification on a rumour.
The rumour was from a caller that 'claimed' he had a friend close to the club that said because Lenny had to have his sternum cut during his heart operation, the sternum was weakened and he wouldn't be able to play again.
Expect the club to clarify that this is rubbish.
Bartlett and Balmy had heard no rumours of this and are going to contact the club.

Re: Lenny
Hilarious. Almost a year to the day that SEN ran a rumour that Lenny's knee was not recovering from surgery and would not play again. They are keen to retire him it would seem

Re: Lenny
The type of operation Lenny Hayes had is done in 2 different ways - 1) Keyhole surgery and 2) Open chest surgery.
With the open chest procedure, the sternum is cut through and separated using clamps, which hold it apart to allow access to the heart. This is how bypass surgery is done. With this type of surgery, the recovery period can be 8-10 weeks as obviously the sternum bone needs to heal properly.
In a young and supremely fit athlete such as Lenny Hayes, even having this type of surgery would NOT stop him playing football again. It would just mean a longer recovery period.
However it appears from media reports that Lenny had keyhole surgery. Which is minimally invasive. And would certainly be the preferred option with someone wanting to get back onto the field quickly.
Either way, he is 100% ok to play next year. SEN should not air this rubbish.

Re: Lenny
He's probably out working like some of us have to (I think he's a manicurist or something) and won't be available for comment until later this arvo.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

who? plugger or lenny
Re: Lenny
it would have been keyhole surgery,
It may sound crass but it is obvious because the club signed him for an extra year before the surgery... if there was any risk AT ALL that he wouldn't be right to play at full strength... they would have waited until after he was on his feet to re-sign him....
