Re: amen brother
Said similar myself. It's to placate the greedy turds in the AFLPA headed by Luke Ball who apparently found it too hard to move to the club he wanted under the old system and finds his millions of dollars harder to make last.
Re: amen brother
A one-club hero without a flag. This way he's a reasonable chance of getting a flag, and with a fair bit more cash in his pocket. Not a bad option for him.stinger wrote:"Under the old trade system, Goddard almost certainly would have re-signed for another three years. He would have finished a one-club hero."

Re: amen brother
That's not exactly true. He didn't sign the contract that was put in front of him earlier this year.SainterK wrote:The club invited him to test the FA market (shrugs)
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.
Re: amen brother
He asked for a fourth year, even at the end he asked to discuss a fourth year with conditions met in the third...he was told to go have a look aroundSaintPav wrote:That's not exactly true. Re: amen brother
The club and goddard decided to go to free agency because they couldn't agree. that's not the club just telling him to go. i don't think they were prepared to mortgage the house to keep him and so he's gone. Doesn't change the fact that it is weighted towards some clubs coming out in a much better position than others and it won't be us.

Re: amen brother
Even if he hadn't signed with us and remained a one club player, we would have certainly recieved more than Pick 13 for him in a trade. Unless he "Balled" us, like young Jamie has.

Scott Watters has said that the Goddard move has been in the making for 12 months. If he had made his mind up 12 months ago I'm not sure there is much the club can do about it !!SainterK wrote:The club invited him to test the FA market (shrugs)
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
Re: amen brother
I would have been very upset if we paid Goddard what the Bombers are paying based on his last season and a half, he might come good and get back to 2009 form at a new club but I was very dissapointed in hisperformance this season. He seems to play the loose half back very well and a lot of other positions ok, but he struggles to win a contested ball and isnt a stand out in any one area. $800K per year is for a star and a matchwinner. Good luck to him, not matching the Bombers offer allows us to build our list.

Re: amen brother
Seemed to recall Essendon finished lower than us this year and I certainly like the look of our kids more than theirs and they rely heavily on a 37 yo to hold up their back line. I'm not sure if they are any closer than us to a flag.bergholt wrote:A one-club hero without a flag. This way he's a reasonable chance of getting a flag, and with a fair bit more cash in his pocket. Re: amen brother
So you really, really, really believe that other clubs would not have spoken to BJ's manager???SainterK wrote:The club invited him to test the FA market (shrugs)
My ranking of St Kilda players in terms of $$$worth.
Lenny
Roo (though Roo is paid more)
Fisher
Dal
BJ
Was BJ content the 5th best paid player at the Saints?
= no
= why he left
Does BJ deserve to be the 2nd best paid player at the Saints?
= no
= why many did not want BJ to leave, we understand that he backed the club into a corner
BJ leaving
= I can look Lenny in the eye and know that the club has not screwed him over

Other clubs would have been into his manger all that time.
Same as with Gablett.
